Garza Surgery?

did we just find our next x is as good as one of ISU's best player?

Happens every year without fail. Seems like only yesterday Basabe was as good as Ejim, Aaron White was as good as Naing, then Utoff was as good as Niang, Bohanon was good(?)

A tradition unlike any other

Last year it was Garza would be our best post player and Baer would be our best returning player. I'm anxious to hear the predictions later this fall.

I feel bad for Weiskamp. He's going to be good, but will never live up to Hawk fan's unrealistic expectations.

He was definitely better offensively than any post player for Iowa State, and statistically, he was a better rebounder than any of Iowa State’s post players. For some reason, posters on CyFan seem to think he sucked because he’s a slow-footed, goofy looking dude.

Full of jokes tonight huh? Lard would eat his ******* lunch

Based on the advanced metrics that I've compiled below, I'll take Cam every day of the week over Garza.

It’s sucks that the hoks are irrelevant in basketball. I see they are getting tagged to finish in the double digit places in the Big 10 again.

Well, at least one projection likes them...

They still will likely suck on defense, but that roster has a lot of scoring potential.

We are #35 in the same projections.

There are a lot of blah teams at the bottom of the Big Ten that there are not in the Big 12. Even the "bad" teams in the Big 12... OSU, OU, Baylor... are going to be way more likely to reach up and bite you than are the likes of PSU, Minny, and Buttgers.

I have a feeling both teams are going to be pretty good next year.

That game in Iowa City is going to determine a lot about both making the tournament and/or seeding for both teams, looking at the mutual schedules.

You have said he shouldn't start for any Power school in the country.

Think about it, for any.

If you think Cam Lard is a better offensive player than Garza you’re an idiot. Lard is definitely a better overall player, but Garza is much better offensively (and a marginally better rebounder).
And the B1G is about as bad as any Power conference has ever been. You ever think maybe that's why he looks good to you? It's because the competition blows.
Iowa State will play eight more in conference games against 2018 NCAA tourney teams this year than Iowa will. Its staggering how bad the B1G is.

Pepsi challenge:
12.1 pts, 56%fg, 6.1 rebounds, 1 block
12.6 pts, 60%fg, 8.4 rebounds, 2.2 blocks

Curious how is the top line a statistically better post player? Both freshman.

Basabe is better than Ejim will live on forever. Basabe over Ejim became a guy who should be riding the bench for most decent teams vs an All American and B12 PotY.

At least White was a solid player, no Niang but it wasn't the total hilarious laugher that Basabe over Ejim was.

Best of luck for a speedy recovery. His best attribute is that he works his a$$ off and gives it his all.

Pretty skilled offensively for a big guy, but liability on defense.

That’s fair....I do think he can improve on D. He got himself out of position a lot and he got overpowered at times. With the way he works I definitely expect him to improve on the defensive end

He will never be the hok god of defense Adam Woodbury. He was so underrated it gives hok fan semi wood. Look at him point at stuff and yell. That means he cares and is good at organizing things, real hok stuff.Oops.

Your argument is based off points per game and field goal percentage? Lol.

Points per 100 possessions:
Garza- 31.5
Lard- 27.4

O-Rating
Garza- 126.6
Lard- 113.4

True Shooting Percentage
Garza- 61%
Lard- 60%

Offensive Box Plus/Minus
Garza- 5.9
Lard- 2.0

Offensive Win Shares
Garza- 2.7
Lard- 1.8

Rebound Percentage
Garza- 16.7%
Lard- 16.6%

Lard is a good player, has way more potential than Garza, and is a better all-around player than Garza. But nearly every single advanced metric says Garza is the better offensive player, and just watching the two it is obvious that Garza is much more skilled and has a more diverse array of post moves.

You said he was a better rebounder than anyone ISU has, not that he's a better offensive player. It's obvious he won't get as many rebounds as Lard if they play the same # of years in college and Lard doesn't go pro early. After one season it's

I'm not sure he is a better offensive player anyway, toward the end of the year 15-20 was a typical scoring night for Lard. Offensive rebounds and put backs are part of offense.

I said he was better offensively and as a rebounder than any of Iowa State’s posts. My post above shows the advanced stats that support that proposition.
