Gary Payton II?

This is one of the most random things ever.... Usually odd ball random stuff on here are from people with clear mental problems.. Maybe Gary is going crazy?

Here's a theory: Maybe the kid has no good offers (or no offers) and Dad's willing to pay the freight to let him walk-on 'cause he knows Fred will give him a chance to get noticed in a big conference.
This seems the most realistic scenario to me. I know when GP ran down what his kids were doing he was very matter-of-fact that his son was graduating this year and going to IOWA STATE. I may be getting old, but that is very clearly what was said. When asked if he was going to play GP said "Yes..."

I checked the Ohio State message boards just for fun and they had no mention of getting Gary Paytons kid and neither did Idaho State and those are the only two schools that sound like Iowa State. So people saying that he said Iowa State have to be right. This is just an interesting and confusing situation.

tOSU's 2011 class is STACKED. Five incoming 4 star or better prospects with long descriptions of them on Rivals. A one or two star ...or unheard of walk-on may not even get a jersey even if his dad is a legend. This isn't realistic.

A one or two star guard walking on at ISU when his Dad is willing to pay the bills and know his kid will be under the watchful eye of a good guy and may get some playing time is realistic.

Hey, we can dream.

Just listened as well...it seemed pretty clear that he said Iowa State...at this point I'm just going to guess he'll be a walk on.

I'm more interested in hearing about his "pretty girl" of a daughter.

Gary Payton in the interview says, "My middle son is graduating from high school. He's going to go to Iowa State next year." [Is he gonna play?] "Yes. He's gonna be pretty good."

It's how he says it that makes it so interesting. Very nonchalant.

Thanks for the link, and yep that's what it says. I was very skeptical; not now. Was thinking though. Right now we have the best "transfer" team. If GP II walks on; in a few years along with Bubu we just might have the best "on-walk" team too.

I spoke to a recruiting expert about Payton jr. Here is what he said about him. Said he is a lock down defender. Can see the court real well and can dish. He did said he has no ability to knock down a jump shot. Thought he was giong to be a prefered walkon at The University of Washington and that somehow Fred might have used his NBA connection to get him to walkon at Iowa State. Said he was not sure about the ISU thing though.

Well, I can see Fred being able to teach Payton the Younger to shoot a jump shot. I seem to recall a kid out of Wilmington (NC) Laney who couldn't shoot from outside to save his life. Still did fairly well, though.

Everybody I have talked to says that Iowa State has never recruited this kid. Maybe he is planning on walking on? Just strange that Gary Payton's kid would pick Ames, Iowa of all places to choose to go to school and walk on.

I would agree with you a few years ago like when GMac was our coach HOWEVER, we have Hoiberg now who, not only played in the NBA for 9 or 10 seasons, he was also in the front office for 4 or 5 years after.

Kids are committing to us because of this, not necessarily because it's Ames, IA. Fred has CONNECTIONS and it's obvious players think he can get them to the NBA because he was "in" the NBA for 14-15 years!

CONNECTIONS.

By the way, he did clearly say "Iowa State" and Payton is not inarticulate either. I could understand every word he said in that interview.
