Gary Barta everybody

Barta's conduct here is completely indefensible. With 100,000 drunk people around and a heated rivalry after a really long day and lots of delays, you're not going to have to do much to persuade me that something could have happened. It's totally believable.

But to handle it the way Barta has is wildly unprofessional and undermines his accusations. Which is sad for the victim(s) because they're much less likely to be believed thanks to the way their AD botched this.

This is the stuff normal people get fired over. In Iowa City, this is the stuff people get contract extensions for.

That’s fair. I keep my stuff in this forum...I don’t pollute your football and b-ball forums. I always find it a bit strange when folks around here get worked up over some Hawk fan posting in the In State Rivals forum...pretty easy to avoid.
I think it's the tone of the posts that riles people up. Some Hawk posters on this board are reasonable, informative, and somewhat objective. Most are not.
Granted, there are Cyclone fans posting in here that get a little aggressive as well. However, they have the advantage of being on their own fansite. Hawkeye fans ON THEIR OWN website are free to make comments directed at ISU as often and as excessively biased as they want, IMO. They should not expect the same freedom here.

Barta needs to go at this point. This is just embarrassing. How do you accuse Iowa State of not protecting the band and provide zero evidence or even details of the allegation. I’m generally ok with his ineptitude because it only hurts Iowa but now it’s hurting us.

Which Barta should have done before his press release.

Don't say he had the facts, because if he did he wouldn't have:

  1. Been vague on the release
  2. Asked ISU for further information (should have been done privately first, not publicly then absolutely no followup per Pollard's release)
It’s bazaro world on here today. I’ve been posting that Barta shouldn’t have made that release and waited for the facts

I think its bizarre that there hasn't even been a single protest about keeping Barta employed at Iowa has there?
I’ve wanted another AD but I wouldn’t say that release was a firable offense...just another misstep IMO. Now, if this turns out to be something legit I still think he should have waited.

Let's see, in the 3 games I marched in at Kinnick during my time with ISUCFVMB I've had multiple things thrown at us including beer cans (opened so you get the impact of the can plus the splash of beer on your uniform and instrument. Plus you don't want to pick up and drink an open one), candies (stick to uniform), quarters, and various food items. Had fans come into our parade formation to push and trip band members. That is even with parading to the stadium before the stadium even opened in an attempt to avoid that. Plus we've had a variety of things yelled at us and hand gestures.

So you say the Iowa band was treated inappropriately? Waaaa!

Kind of wondering if the Iowa AD is holding back what they know and hoping Jamie opens his mouth a little too much.

I'm talking about what's happened in the past. I'm shocked he's still employed.

Without further evidence, I find a few things confusing:
- We lost the game. So why would we even be on the field? If it occurred on the field, it would seem more logical to assume an exuberant Iowa fan was tugging on the band member's collar out of celebration and accidentally pulled them over.
- As to sexual allegations, this is worthy of further investigation. But, again, for an AD to go public with allegations 'against' Iowa State is premature and unprofessional

Only when concrete evidence surfaces should allegations be made public. But, then again, it's Barta and with Iowa's public perception of dominance in the state diminishing (despite winning), immature tactics to taint us seems a strategy more than an accident. After all he is the second most popular AD in Iowa. And, it's not even close!!

I stay out of ISR because most posts are trolls both directions. But how in the hell have all of you been accosted so much at games? I haven’t missed a game against Iowa at either location in 25+ years. I not only have not been assaulted, but have seen nothing but good natured ribbing at either place. You guys must either be really sensitive pussies or obnoxious instigators.

Barta's only game with ISU seems to be one form or another of "gotcha", so maybe. But how long can he sit on things without looking bad before making an appropriate report to someone if he has meaningful evidence of actual crimes ?

I didn't see anything from the press conference that could have provided some gotcha moment. Pollard just said they haven't even been contacted and don't even know what they're looking for yet. He never denied anything happened.

I haven't read this entire thread, but I will share these thoughts as a former member of the ISUCF'V'MB...

Real things that happened to us in two visits to Iowa City in my time there:

1) People chucking full beers and garbage at the sousaphones to try and get it to go down the tube
2) Dumped beer on a trumpet players head
3) Chucked pasta/potato salad at the band
4) Screamed things like "I'm going to kill your family" and "I'm going to rape your mom" in our faces
5) General other obnoxious things to try and instigate a response
6) Booed the sh*t out of us when we took the field. Seriously, the boos were so loud I could feel them in my chest

These are all things that, while unfortunate, are part of the experience of walking into the OTHER lions den. Any sort of physical contact, sexual or otherwise, is over the line and should be dealt with, if it comes to light as part of this allegation.
