The Entire "FRIENDS" Cast

My biggest one, that even though I know he is a phenomenal actor and have loved him in other roles since, is Benedict Cumberbatch

The flipside is when you see some guy that you have known as a TV comedian in a serious role and they are so good at it you forget the comedic past and totally buy and see them in their new role. Tom Hanks, of course, and also Robin Williams. To a lesser extent Will Smith. Early career Jack Lemmon, from when I was a kid, was mostly in movie comedies and farces and than dropped Days of Wine and Roses on us.

Thanks so much to @jbindm for this idea!!

He was thinking about actors who nailed a role so well that when you see them in anything else you still only think of them in that signature role. I think an obvious one is Daniel Radcliffe - he's worked so hard to have a diverse career, but he's always going to be Harry Potter.

For sure. It's been kind of interesting to see the roles that he's taken on since then to kind of break out. Swiss Army Man is an absolutely bonkers movie. I kinda liked it.

Robert Pattinson is another actor in the same vein. He's worked really hard to distance himself from the Twilight movies, so it was surprising to see him take on another franchise with the Batman role when Affleck called it quits.

He had a very prominent role in Forbidden Planet that I remember well.

Good one. It's hard at first to see him in that role but it is really a pretty good movie and after a while I bought it. BTW, the special effects in that movie, 1956, are absolutely amazing for that era. I had to read up on it a little because I was thinking how did they do that?

Steve Carell is a good one. He's still mostly recognized as Michael Scott, but he's done enough to be regarded as a serious actor now. Actually, if you watched his hosting turn on SNL a while back you might be worried that he's forgotten how to be funny.

It took me years before I could think of Keanu Reeves as anyone but Ted "Theodore" Logan

Yeah, Keanu is an interesting one because he's famous across different age demographics, all for different characters. I'm 40, so I'm partial to Bill and Ted or Point Break. For someone a little younger the go-to might be Speed. And then a little younger, Neo. And for the much younger the main reference point is probably John Wick.

For someone that people claim is such a wooden actor he's had a real nice career. I need to see the last 2 Wick movies. I really liked the first and just never got around to seeing the second.

Yeah, he's just kind of hung around and either been prescient or incredibly lucky with the roles he's taken. And I read on one of the forums here I think that he's had discussions with Kevin Feige about joining the MCU. He has to be one of those "He's worth how much?!" guys. Like you don't really think about it until you realize all of the box office hits he's starred in.

I have to disagree. For the MUCH younger it's Duke Kaboom.
