Friday Morning Session

I think last year's results really skewed the expectations for this season for many casual fans. I'm not sure what you guys expected this morning. We were favored in one match and we won one match. Sure, it would have been nice to pull some upsets, but it didn't happen. We still have a good shot at a top 3 finish. We are going to get a lot of points tonight if we come to wrestle. This is still a VERY young team. We lost three seniors last year that all placed in the top 5. That is a lot of points to replace.

We can't do anything about what Iowa does. All you can do is tip your cap to them. They deserve it.
That's what I'm seeing as well. I still say we finish 4th with a shot at 3rd. The wrestlers that are done right now I didn't expect to place really. Well, I was hoping for Mueller to place but didn't think he would.

Brands with his behavior mat side or in practice seems like he is dangerously close to having his cheese slip off the cracker.

Here's what I think we have tonight.

#5 Fanthorpe vs. #6 Ruggirello (Hofstra)- Ruggirello is a pinner and pinned Fanthorpe at National Duals. That is a tough draw for Nick but it is a toss-up.

#9 Gallick vs. Headlee (Pitt)- Gallick is favored against the unseeded wrestler. Nick has a good shot at AA.

#7 Sanderson vs. Bonilla-Bowman (Hofstra)- If this is the same guy Cyler faced at ND, he should be favored. Cyler jumped out to a big lead and held on for the victory in their last meeting. Once again, we should be favored.

#6 Reader vs. #9 Stewart (CMU)- I dont know much about Stewart, but looks like another toss-up.

#1 Varner vs. #4 Sinnott (CMU)- Varner has beaten Sinnott already this season. He should win by 1-2 points like usual.

Bertolino vs. Burns (UNC Greensboro)- Bertolino should be favored in a matchup of unseeded wrestlers
#7 Zabriskie vs. #9 Porter (KSU)- Another toss-up

It looks like we should be favored in most matches tonight and should get at the very least, 5 AA. 7 is certainly not out of the question.

Right now most teams ahead of us because they have several AA's like Neb., OSU, and PSU. I like our chances to jump a lot of these teams tonight. Neb. and OSU don't have any favored guys in the semis. That really doesn't mean anything but it makes me feel better. Lots of wrestling left between tonight and tomorrow morning.

Don't forget -- 3rd place still gets a lot of bonus points. 1 win away from AA for 6 guys (I believe?) and JV already AA (guaranteed no less than 6 I think). If our 6 guys win 1 more, then they'll start getting bonus placement points for 8th or better.

NOT that I'm saying we've got much of a realistic chance at beating Iowa. It definitely seems to be their's to lose.

You are right it is Iowa's to lose now. Here are the updated team scores I found at HN. The numbers in () are wrestlers left in the tournament. The first one is championship side and the second one is consolation side.

Iowa - 67 (5/2)
Neb - 47.5 (3/3)
OKsT- 47.5 (3/2)
OSU - 45.5 (3/2)
CMich - 43.0 (2/4)
PSU - 42.0 (3/2)
Missouri - 38.5 (2/3)
Cornell - 34.5 (2/2)
Minn - 34.5 (1/4)
ISU - 33.0 (1/6)

We could still get 6 3rd place finishes and a champion. If that were to happen, we would be tough to beat. However, the possibility of that happening is absolutely 0. If we get 7 AA, consider this tournament a success. If you would have proposed that to Cael at the beginning of the season, I think he would have taken it in a second.

Brands seemed to whip that program back into shape pretty fast. I doubt he'll ever win as many titles as Gable though.

If you would have proposed that we get 7AA's at the beginning of the year, I think I would have said "You're ****ing crazy."

Oh wow, I knew we were having a rough day but I didn't realize it was bad enough we'd be falling all the way to 10th and behind the rest of the conference. Oh well, here's to finishing strong and building for the future. I will admit to being a little disappointed that Brands will win one before Cael.
