KU basketball fans are the by far the most uncouth and parochial mouth-breathers in amateur sports.
Honestly, here here is my last take for the night. We got screwed tonight. However, these late game collapses are not a fluke. This has happened again KU the first time, OSU, Texas and now KU again. You can chalk all 4 up to good luck, or decide there is something flawed in our approach to late game situations. While we certainly were affected by some bad calls late, it is an alarming trend that we cannot close out late game leads.
I have never ACTUALLY thought the refs might have purposely wanted one team to win versus another. I always thought when calls went one way or another they were just not doing a good job. Tonight is the first time I thought something fishy might be going on. Some of those calls were awful, and they all went one way, and they were NOT in the favor of the home team. I would love there to be an investigation or even just an explanation but there won't be. It will just continue on. Typically Big 12 bush-league ********.
As a ku fan I can admit that we got some very favorable calls and no calls. What bothers me so much is the level of officiating in this league has become so bad it's scary. I'm sure ill get bashed and as I stated before, calls went our way but I could also name 10 fouls this game against us that were terrible. For the purity and fairness of the game something has to be done to get some consistency and accuracy in the officiating.
Teams are hitting well defended 30 foot desperation shots, chance has something to do with it.
The fixed call for KU wasn't chance though, that's how you win 9 conference titles in a row.
So, nearly half the calls against KU were terrible? You're right, you're going to get bashed.
Agreed that there were some bad calls both ways. The only difference is the most atrocious call that went against us happened with 45 seconds left. There has to be some accountability for refs. Make them explain what they saw, make them explain their reasoning. There is too much money tied up in this game to let games and, inevitably, careers hinge on decisions made by unaccountable individuals.
Our blowout win over Tech had horrible calls both ways, some travels you could have called from blimp camera coverage.
If you admit Withey fouled out nine times and the last call was 100% game fixing, I'll respect you. If not, pound sand.
I thought the game was officiated pretty well until the end. They did not let guys get away with the hip riding out on the perimeter which is as it should be. But then they became chicken-***** at the end.
It is absolutely astonishing that they can't get the foul called on the right person. Just shocking.
There were a few calls against you tonight...and twenty that went for you at the end when it matters. And I agree our conference has some terrible officiating besides just this game.
It makes me feel good seeing how ****** off people are that aren't even Cyclone fans. Everybody knows we got ****ed over.
Bad calls happen all the time but when the game is on the line and one second they don't call an obvious foul and then call a very questionable (phantom) foul to send a team to the line to tie the game with 4 seconds left that is changing the outcome of the game. While refs can suck it is when they change the outcome of a game is where it becomes a problem.
