Withey had like 11 fouls that game. How is that possible? The ref that missed that charge should be fired. It was so blatent and so much contact that there is just no way you can ignore that. And then to call Niang for a fould on the floor afterward? Are you kidding me?!? I always say that you have to beat KU by 15 to win at the Phog and beat them by 7 or 8 to win against them at home (because you are also playing the refs). But tonight, it was definitely >8. Such ********!
What that means is a couple of makeup calls the next game when ku is up 15. The refs will step in and make some emphatic calls against them. Guaranteed.
I hope Fred tells it like it is in the post game interview. KU didn't win. The refs gave it to them and it was blatant, I still can't hardly believe it. This could be a big national stink.
Just saw the replay. First of all, it's a clear charge. Second, the guy landed on Niang, all Georges did was go for the ball, there's no way you can call that on him. Absolute garbage, this is the worst officiating call in ISU history.
Another missed call that is being overlooked here - Babb getting called for that loose ball foul at the end of the game. Bad call in the first place... But then they got to shoot foul shots. Thinking back to the all the discussions following the OSU game, KU did not have possession after their missed shot, so should not have gotten foul shots. Just like we didn't at the end of the OSU game.
I normally root for other Big XII teams in the tourney but I would love to see KU get a 1 seed and be the first 1 seed to lose in the opening game. I realize they don't even have to pay the refs anymore but Withey should have been out of the game in regulation and the refs not calling an obvious charging call and then the foul on Niang when a KU player is laying on top of him - unreal...
That was the call I thought was the sure omen we were going to lose. Wish we had some Johhny Orr fight after the Ejim crap calls, but just accepting that showed the ref's (subconsciously of course. Do NOT underestimate this) that they could/would not make a bad call against KU and walk out fine. Anyway....the Babb call and our team just sitting there saying "AW, shucks" to me meant we were sure to lose. Sure enough, the Whitey call followed and the rest is history now.
Are you sure they shot after that foul? I think it really sucked, but I thought they inbounded after it.
I was thinking about that as well. Why did KU get foul shots there when we didn't at OSU? I'm guessing it has something to do with there being possession immediately before the foul at OSU and no possession on the loose ball against KU.
Same... just not a happy person tonight. That was intolerable for so many reasons but to get beat like that?
This should be a big national stink - how much more obvious could it be - either the refs are incompetent or they are in the bag for KU. I hope this loses the refs any chance at post season work - these guys shouldn't be allowed to ref a jr high game.
You know, it makes me feel slightly better about this brutal loss knowing that the entire country saw KU get the homer calls on a court other than Smog Allen. Everyone who knows anything about basketball understands that KU did not deserve that win and the conference is trying to protect it's big dog.
