Ferentz new deal

“It has been said many times before and I’m pleased to say it again: Kirk Ferentz is a perfect fit for the University of Iowa, the community, and the state. He’s considered one of the best football coaches in the country, he has incredible integrity, he cares deeply about our University and our state, and he’s a proven winner at Iowa,” said Gary Barta, the UI’s director of athletics.

Seems like a good recruiting tool to me.

I agree.

You won't find many coaches (successful ones anyway) that don't have contracts at least 5 years in advance. They need recruits to think that the coach they signed on to play for will be there when they become seniors.

This should be interesting. You are a brave soul, DJK15.

Ding. Ding.

When your AD makes a point to specifically tell the media that his coach has integrity, it is because his character doesn't speak for itself.

I'd be interested to see what Pollard had to say about Chizik in November of 2007. Probably the same sort of glowing platitudes that would fit an official University press release.

So...does that mean that Ferentz "being a perfect fit, one of the best in the country and proven winner" also don't speak for themselves? Because he specifically told the media that too.

what had Chizik done to NOT have that praise at that point?? ... that is the BIG difference.

-keep.

Chizik may not be a good game day coach, but how many players of his were arrested during his time at ISU?

That's not what I was getting at?. Chiz didn't do anything but alienate people and burn bridges while he was in Ames, and that's well documented.

The kind of language from the Iowa press release (which is what that was) is pretty typical of press releases announcing contract extensions.

Maybe a better example would be the press-release announcing the hiring of Greg McDermott, or him getting an extension despite having done nothing to earn it.

Hadn't Chizik served as DC on two undefeated teams before he came to ISU? That seems like something that new AD looking to make big splash would probably mention.

It was the contract signed, not a new deal. You are looking for something that isn't there.

If that's your argument...that is exactly what this is. Kirk's extension was announced in April. It was signed last week.

I'd be willing to bet that someone started a thread about it.
