The only thing that surprises me is that the date of this thread is 10/25/22. Could have been written any day within the past 20 years.
Barta will retire before he has to hire a football coach. He doesn’t want to be another Bump Elliott or forest evasheshki (however it’s spelled).Google Bump or Evy and the first thing that comes up are “four worst hires in the history of college football.” That is what is driving this.
When asked about how bad their last place rated offense is, the cute "I've noticed" take by Kirk may work in Iowa City, but it was great when the Ohio reporter just shot right back saying--"everybody has noticed"'.
Kirk cannot fire Brian because the university got around its own nepotism policy by stating that Brian reports to Kirk's boss (Barta).

He knows that, but he also knows that the four previous hires (at least two by Bump) to Hayden were total disasters. And Bump is also remembered for that at Iowa. It is built into their pschye.
Pretty sure Bump is more remembered for hiring Hayden Fry, Lute Olson, Dan Gable, C. Vivian Stringer, George Raveling, Tom Davis.
