Fennelly's Floor?

He coaches WBB. And it's not like it's hard to marginalize WBB. TV ratings. Attendance. Performance. UConn being the only team that wins, like, ever. Except once every blue moon like Baylor. WBB marginalizes itself.
Fennelly is great for ISU. But hasn't done anything close enough to deserving an honor like naming a court after him.
If you think I'm marginalizing him by stating that he doesn't deserve his name on the court (One of the best honors a coach can have) then by your jacked up definition I guess I am. He's a great women's bball coach, and there is no one I'd rather have coach the women. Frankly this whole conversation about BF's name on the court, is a joke. Perfect offseason thread.
How is it jacked up to say you're marginalizing him when you're saying no matter what he does he should never get his name on the court? I don't think he should now, but if he won the national title every year or had a resume like Summit's, he should be in the conversation. And to say he automatically shouldn't be considered because he coaches women's basketball just makes you an *******

Lost in the hubbub is the fact Hoiberg played on that court, not just coached on it. That's gotta count for something doesn't it?
Fennelly is a great coach, but I think he would need national championship level success in order for his name to be on the floor, which he's not very close to at all really. You can only name a floor once, so of course we're going to pass on Fennelly and take a look at what Fred does with his time here in Ames.
Correct. It's women's basketball. Unless you're Tennessee, it is never more deserving than men's basketball. That's a weak PC comment CW.
3. Even though Tennessee's women's program is legendary, they still care more about the men's team, and I would be a little embarrassed if I were the men's coach at Tennessee.
Nobody said Fennelly shouldn't be honored in some way. He most definitely should. You just don't name the court after a women's coach, especially when the men's program has more tradition, and waaaaaaaaaaay more fan support. Unless you're Tennessee.

As a fan of WBB and BF as well as CFH: Unless BF wins multiple NC, it will not be named after him. But there will be a statue or something like that for him.
So the question: what does it take to rename the arena? How long will we have to wait? Let's say CFH goes to final four several times and then leaves for NBA, then we rename the arena to Hoiberg Court. The new coach comes and win the national championship several times. Will we change the name? Everything here is hypothetical. But I can see us waiting for some time if the arena is to be renamed.

No one is saying Fennelly is not important to the University...in fact, I would venture to guess 95% of the people on here would be highly disappointed if Bill was not honored is some way in the future. However, naming a court after him is not the way to go. The fact that most people watching an ISU game on ESPN would have to Google who Fennelly is should be reason enough to say no on the court. Thats not a knock on Bill; its fact, and Bill would be the first one to tell you it.
Im fine with Hoiberg arena and Fennelly court. Who cares what outsiders see on TV. What BF has done and continues to do in this community and university is way beyond what any other coaches have done, and as much as you all ***** about people not respecting or being loyal to this university, its time you respect those who have been for a long time and plan on continuing.
