Fear the Walking Dead?

Here's my 2 cents on the characters:

Mom - Needs to tell people what she has seen. Annoying. Stop shining flashlights out the windows at night.
Dad - Soft and weak. Anti-guns.
Son - actually don't mind him. I want him to turn into a drugged up badass.
Daughter - Hot, but annoying. Again, stop shining flashlights out the window at night.
Travis's son - annoying.
Ex wife - No opinion.
Barber - Smart, tough, badass. Would definitely stick with him in a zombie apocalypse.
Barbers daughter - Hot, wouldn't mind being stuck with her in a zombie apocalypse.
Barbers wife - she won't last long.
Tobias - seems knowledgeable, but not physically strong.

I agree with this list, I'm not sure who I hate more Travis's son or the daughter.

It's funny how people's opinions differ. I am loving this show. Especially relative to TWD. I always hated about 90% of the characters on that show. Every episode is one scene of melodramatic 1 to 1 dialogue followed by another scene of melodramatic 1 to 1 dialogue and so on. My interest in the overall plot is what keeps me going.

One thing I hope this show does is focus more on what post apocalyptic life is like and less on zombies. Most of the zombie scenes in TWD seem gratuitous.

The mom still drives me nuts, although the one smart thing she tries to do, tap Susan, the guy stops. Am I the only one that thought WTF, when they are holed up playing board games, and she knows what's out there, but no one seems concerned about where the dog is until he shows up? And the refusal to tell the daughter about got her killed. Junkie getting on my nerves this episode. I like the barber's daughter and that's about it unless they bring back Tobias.

There was a line that really gave away why the mom was being quiet about what she knew. When the daughter had just found out what Susan was (or the turned neighbor guy) she said "is that what [boyfriend] is now?!?!?" and almost started to bolt like she was going to run to him. I think the mom knows that her kids are messed up enough that they'd both fall off their respective deep ends, and she's obviously an enabler.

Im with those who think the show should have started earlier. In these times where news of avian flu or ebola goes worldwide in days? Think about how stressed out you would be if people around the world started tweeting or posting vines of zombies? This version is very LA-centric which I find ridiculous. The daughter would be viewing social media across the globe.

They also really missed an opportunity to focus on realistic local fears such as a neighbor dying in their sleep and wandering through someone's back yard at 3am. A slow ramp up of those types of events would have everyone on edge. Instead they went from zero to 100 in a couple days.

.

Yeah, but when the plug gets pulled, no electricity to charge your phones or run your towers, tweeting vines of zombies wouldn't last very long. It would all be gone before someone could make sense of it.

We don't know that this didn't start in LA. They made a point of showing an airliner taking off at the end of the episode - which is how such a pandemic would spread.

Agreed, but with the military taking over the situation, they can go back to the slow ramp up after everyone thinks that they're safe. Remember that the father thinks that the zombies are still just sick, not dead.

Herschel & Milton still thought they were sick...and could possibly be cured.

Sorry - I was only responding to the part about the father. Maybe I misunderstood your intent. I was just pointing out that solid, rational people still held that belief months after society collapsed.

Absolutely agree. But in this case the solid reasonable people were given evidence by the military that it may not be curable.

Father knows best.

Tobias knows about the situation because he saw stuff online. That is why he has been the best prepared.

Well, they shot "susan" in front of the dad (and his wife)...but I must have missed the evidence the military gave them?

Shooting the lady in the head in front of the dad (and his wife) when the neighbor and his former wife appeared to be hugging.

That's not a typical response during a riot situation.

I was going to clarify that, best prepared as going to the school to get a lot of food. He also knew about the utilities shutting down.

I understood what you were getting at. In a city of no one prepared for zombies, he was the only one thinking of what he may need.
