Favorite Movies of 2017

Shane black is the man, especially kiss kiss bang bang.

However, I saw a snapshot feom the set of this movie with a predator on the back of a truck with a fixed gun..idk if they try to team up humans and predator im a little worried aboht that plot lol. I want more risks and new original content in movies. There are way too many sequels. I did enjoy predators.with adrian brody

Just finally saw Kingsman: The Golden Circle and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Eh, I actually didn't find either to be as bad as many people played them out to be. While not great, I actually found Dead Men Tell No Tales to probably be the best Pirates movie since the first one, which isn't a big bar to clear. For The Golden Circle, it definitely fell into the trope of the typical sequel that tried too hard and went a bit overboard on everything that made the first one so good, but it still wasn't terrible. I really liked the introduction of the Statesman into the universe, but yes, the movie was definitely too long. Overall, I surprisingly at least somewhat enjoyed both movies. Again, not as bad as I thought they would be. Also, I made sure to add them to my overall list at the beginning of this thread.

Holy Cow! Some of you choose to spend your time differently than I do, so I am going to make a statement that makes me seem superior to you.

I think The Last Jedi was the only movie I went to see last year. I want to go and see more movies, but never seem to make it out to the theater.

A lot of that going around.

One of those things to each their own I guess. Again, with all the movies I post, the vast vast majority of them are not seen in the theater by me, but rather are seen through blu-ray, even though I still do go to a fair amount of movies in theater..... usually something like 1-2 movies a month. I've currently got the new $10/month movie pass for unlimited movies I want to see in theaters, which helps a bunch. Cost ends up being pretty much the same as a Netflix subscription.

I was being very sarcastic in my post. I don't care how people spend their time or money. It is their own to spend. As you said, to each their own.

If I make a list, Blade Runner will be at the top. I think Blade Runner should be seen at a theatre with the largest screen and best sound system. For me, it’s an immersive experience and it must be felt, heard and seen. I was disappointed it wasn’t on imax in Des Moines. The plot and cast are excellent. I hope it racks up an assortment of awards.

Dunkirk is another theatre experience.

Three Billboards is the best movie I've seen this year, IMO. Original and Unique, very serious story lines going on but the whole thing is woven with comedy that doesn't seem forced. Loved it.

I can't wait to see Blade Runner 2049. I'm going to go back and watch the original Blade Runner first right before it. With that said, while you say it must be seen in theater, at least I'm planning on watching it on blu-ray on my big 65 inch TV to get as close as I can to that experience. I hate to admit it, but my home viewing experience is in some ways better than the theater one at this point. The picture I can get now-a-days, particularly in 4K, is even better than the theaters.

I see you like to stick mostly to the artsier movies and avoid the blockbusters. That's alright. To each their own. I'm just going to assume that you don't exactly visit my superhero forums on here at all. Impressed how many of the Oscar contending movies you've already seen.

I just saw both of those movies, too. Dead Men Tell No Tales was fine. I was just looking for a way to kill two hours while my daughter napped, and it fit the bill.

I agree completely on Kingsman: The Golden Circle. It just seemed like they tried to one-up the original and it ended up messy and forced. Also, giving an actor top billing or featuring them prominently in the trailer and then having them be in the movie for all of about ten minutes is bush league. I hope they try another sequel. I heard a rumor that the director wants to do one more with Dwayne Johnson as the villain. That could be good.

We'll on the sequel thing. Keep in mind that Kingsman is a Fox property and Disney just bought Fox, so I think it will ultimately end up being Disney's decision. However, my guess is that Disney ends up keeping the Fox banner as a separate production arm for all their more than PG-13 billings, and consequently, movies like Kingsman still keep being made under Disney. We'll see.

After powering through a handful of the more acclaimed movies I put together a list of the movies that I saw that were made in 2017.
1) Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (Sam Rockwell's Character is outstanding, as well as Frances')
2) Lady Bird
3) Brigsby Bear
4) Logan
5) BladeRunner 2049
6) The Disaster Artist
7) I, Tonya
8) The Florida Project
9) Beauty and the Beast
10) Brawl in Cell Block 99
11) Wonder Woman
12) Guardians of the Galaxy; Vol. 2
13) Logan Lucky
14) Star Wars: The Last Jedi
15) Kong: Skull Island

(I realized now almost all the movies I saw I enjoyed, even Kong, though it was last solely because there isn't anything more to it than being entertainment. probably 4-13 can be interchanged for me haha)

I actually see the blockbusters too...mostly on opening nights. My better half is a huge comic book movie fan so I have seen them all and liked them just not my favorites. However I will say we already have early screening tickets for Black Panther and that looks incredible. Can't wait for that.

Getting down to last change for the theater and Blade Runner. Might pop over to Hopkins tonight and screen it before it is too late.

I'm seeing Black Panther solely based off of it's soundtrack haha, I'm sure it will be very entertaining.

I think this is a time where both BlockBusters and Indie/Artsy-er films are sharing the stage as far as the box office goes. So many unique story and productions created this year it seems.

I think I enjoy Indie more, more often than not, because I feel it is more impressive. Like Brigsby Bear, it was one of my favorite movies this year. It had a unique and interesting story line, it was obviously low budget, but at the same time very high quality production, and the actors in it were great and well known. Funny, serious and intriguing. If you can get an indie film with a well-known actor, I think that is a huge sign because it is obvious that they believe in the film for what it is, and not just doing it for the dollar signs.

My better half despises comic book movies, so if I'm going to see Black Panther in a theater it'll probably have to be on a weekday afternoon. Which is fine. I hate crowded theaters.
