I'm entering the Texas State fair cookie competition again this year and wanted to add another category to boost my chances. I've decided the third category will be Holiday/Party cookies but I am trying to figure out which one to make.

So what's your favorite Holiday/Party cookie?

My mom has made these cookies for my entire life and people from all around get excited around Christmas time that she will send them some. They are a prized treat for anyone who knows my mom. I've made them myself a few times, but they never taste quite the same. They are called Pecan Tassies. They are a real PIA to make, but are quite delicious. Basically, they are a bite sized pecan pie. It's a cookie based crust instead of pie crust and it's not custard, more of a caramel type filling. You have to have mini cupcake tins and you shape the cookie crust into them, bake those slightly, then you remove each one and fill it with the sugar, corn syrup and pecan mixture.

Booze balls. My favorite flavors are Grand Marnier, Rum, & Peppermint Schnapps, but you can make them with many different chocolate compatable liqueurs...just not the cream based ones like Bailey's or the thicker ones like Kahlua.

So you like chocolate based balls and not cream based balls?

Frosted sugar for sure. Close 2nd is sugar with Hershey kiss in the middle

My wife makes these but I'm pretty sure it isn't a sugar cookie, but rather a peanut butter cookie with a kiss in the middle. For a fair, I'm not sure they will have full impact when not served fresh out of the oven. They are best when the kiss is on the verge of melting.

Chocolate crinkles for sure but spritz are a close second. My grandma makes her spritz sandwich style with frosting in the middle. They are fantastic.

My wife makes what we call "pumpkin cookies" every fall. They're oatmeal/pumpkin/chocolate chip cookies with frosting and candy corn faces on them to make them look like jack-o-lanterns. It's a recipe her mom clipped from a magazine like 40 years ago. I'd share it, but I'd have to kill you.

Second are chocolate crinkles. My wife makes a delicious version of these and they are always a big hit:

hey what are your first two?

My wife started making chocolate peppermint cookies for the holiday the last few years. Not a huge chocolate person but they are fantastic.

my wife makes some similar to these that are my favorite she makes, but she uses those peppermint Andes candies in the dough along with the chocolate chips.

my favorite cookie my mom does is the double layer linzer tarts in a star, and she uses her homeade jam in them.
