Fair weather fans...

So I took the liberty of expanding on your position a little by adding in the comment(s) of others that agree with your general premise - shoot me! Direct quote from you, Mr. 15:

You defined "people" versus "fans" and opined it'd be better the "people not show up". Again, direct quote...

I'll request it again. Please explain to me how it benefits ISU's team and athletic department to have 32,000 FANS (my estimated number - you never said it) in the stadium as opposed to 56,700 concession-using, paying, swearing, complaining, early leave-taking PEOPLE. That's the position you're advocating! I'm waiting...

P.S. If you do attempt to defend your position, I doubt Jamie Pollard will agree with you. I think he prefers the cash that comes with the paying customers...

Thanks you made my point exactly.... tooo BAD we have only 32,000 FANS (your estimate) in the stadium instead of 56,700 concession using, paying, NON-swearing, stay till the end of the game FANS. it's just too bad... but that can NEVER happen at Iowa State... That's what Jamie Pollard would say ..... never at Iowa State... I think not !

Oh well... agree to disagree with your points and just wanna be "quoted" instead of led a different direction.

Go Clone FANS !

I don't make ridiculous excuses for losing to inferior opponents. Winners don't. Winners own up to their errors and seek to correct them. There is no defeatist attitude. Every loser of a coach I know makes excuses for why they can't win.

Well, you should have had your fill of that over the last 12 years from the previous coach... Since Chizik doesn't behave that way, you must be having lack-of-lame-excuses-from-the-head-coach withdrawl. It would explain much...

You must be a poli-sci major with the way you've chosen to skirt the one and only issue I have with your thoughts, namely your suggestion (synopsized as) that "people stay home - only fans attend". That's flat out wrong, and nobody from the coaching staff or the athletics department would agree with your bold proclaimation! Thank goodness you're not in charge of Cyclone marketing efforts...

If I was Gene, I would hit the recruiting trail for a place kicker tomorrow. The 3 attempts beyond the 40 will be common against Texas and Oklahoma etc.

We Just Don't Have the Horses

Those folks who are bitc$ing & moaning about the coaching staff and Meyer not getting Blythe the ball consider this: our o-line and d-lines got dominated by Kent State and UNI.

ISU didn't go 1-7 in the Big 12 last season because we had underachieving players. Fans need to chill and understand its going to take a couple years to determine if CG is the answer.

Actually I am a marketing grad. And with a sold out stadium and hopefully many more to come my point is it would be much more a Big 12 atmosphere and home field advantage with FANS in the stadium not just PEOPLE. WHY NOT want more FANS than JUST PEOPLE? Marketing would sell not just the product on the field but also the complete package... gameday atmosphere and events. Negative people only takes away from the atmosphere. Marketing is NOT just directed towards the game.

Acutally wasn't it CHIZIK (a member of the coach staff) that called out for the loudest crowd in the Big 12 ? "People" with a free ticket or even paid for aren't as likely to provide that atmospere as FANS.

If we only had 36,000 human beings whether considered fans or people I would see your point... but now we should want FANS, not just settle for bodies in the seats. This is not to take away from MANY FANS that did attend. Many tickets are sold or given to corporate sponsors and thus not always used by true STATE FANS.

Jealously want more FANS!

GO CLONES !

Just look at our current list of recruits for next year and then look at Nebraska. They are essentially working next year as they have too many lined up. Looks like more jucosw for next year's class for us. Nebraska indicated they have nop talent good enough from Nebraska for their 2009 class as no in staters have offers or interest to date. They might have to get some more from California.

I would like to see less than 10000 Hawk fabns at the next game. Actually UNI is rated a better team than Iowa by Sagarin. With us playing all Top #100 Sagarin teams, our losses will not drop us much from #137.

What does this have to do with the current thread ?
Please read your post before posting... so many typos I am still trying to figure out what you meant.

Sorry you could not understand. Let me re-explain what I alluded to.

We only have 7 or 8 recruits (none lately), Nebraska has 22 recruits. They are all from around the country. Oklahoma State, Oklahoma and Texas and Texas A&M are basically set. We are dragging towards the finish line.

For 2009 Nebraska has several offers outside Nebraska but none for nebraska kids. In other words, they have raised their talent acceptance pool. That means Bill is going after 4 and 5 stars from California, Oklahoma, and now Texas.

People continue to be focused on the two games. The bigger story is Gene is having more problems recruiting than we expected. At the end of last year he went for 11 jucos. The highest this year ois a 3 star. He is doing no better recruiting (it seems like from rivals and scout) than Dan did.

So if we cannot improve recruiting in near term, we need to make the players better. So far, you have seen the games.

Hope that clarifies what I was trying to say.

How will GC succeed? Player development. I can't remember one single impact player of Mac's that left better than he arrived.

If GC is going to win, he will get the 2, 1 and no stars players and develop them into 3, 2 and 1 stars talent. Then, once they buy into his system, they will have modest success.

Once we have modest success, we will get better players, who will see the advantages of playing for a coach who will turn them into better players, and maybe even play on Sunday.

And if he can't, he can't, and we'll get another coach, but it's time for the drunken, feces-flinging monkeys to STFU (and quit making unfair comparisons with schools like Nebraska) long enough to get on with the season.

Well.... Thats great for Nebraska. I'm sure bringing in recruits, looking at their national title trophies, 80,000 seat stadium, and brand new weight room and practice facilities had nothing to do with it.

I'm sure bringing in students to see our Cy-Hawk trophy, Telephone Trophy, 45,000 seat stadium has the same effect as Nebraska's.

This thread is about the fair weather fans.... Didn't know that had affected our recruiting.

Just to mention about recruits again.... Chizik had to rush for his first class.... Second class is going to take time also. If I was a five star or four star I wouldn't be interested in State either till they showed some life. Iowa didn't get them until there 11-1 season either. Thats 4 recruiting classes into Ferentz career..

Hello reality... Have we met

I'd be in favor of CF getting shut down for a full 24 hours following every loss.

Just sayin'...

Funny, I was thinking the same thing the other day. It cuts out during every game so why not after a loss. A good time for maintenance. I don't really read much related to the games afterward because its all ridiculous babble, and doesn't really provide any entertaining or enjoyable purpose.

I'm not particularly concerned that we don't have a ton of players signed yet. The reality is that, as a program lacking tradition, good players probably will not commit to us early. That doesn't mean we won't get them in February.

PS: How do you get someone else's quoted text to appear in a different font?

Fair weather fans wouldn't be on here venting and trying to push the coaching staff into improvements. I keep hearing that we don't have the talent and were lucky to win any games last year. I disagree. ISU does have the talent and if it weren't for a couple of key injuries could have been a bowl contender last season. This season is NOT lost, I don't care what I hear from the national press. ISU CAN win and will if Chizik learns how to be an effective head coach. I think that there will be great improvement and ISU WILL surprise a lot of folks THIS season.

Some "fans" are unbelievable. Why are people dumping so many of their tickets? Even if we do struggle you can atleast get your money's worth and go watch division one football at a great stadium.

Good grief. This is not a coaching problem. This is a talent/new system/winning attitude/adversity problem.

It can't and won't be overcome in a matter of days/weeks or even months.

Be prepared to be patient and give the damn coach a chance!

Ohh come now, there have been plenty of people that were nothing coming in, and were something coming out....Ennis, Ellis, Jorden Carstens, Reggie Hayward, Heck Troy Davis was on the bench when Dan got there. That is unfair.

If you do that, then after it comes back up you will have a flood of people not only ******** about the game, but the fact that cyclonefanatic was down all day as well.

i am all about patience, but I am upset because my last season as a student and we might not win one game. I wish I wasn't but it is rather saddening.
