Expectations for 2018-2019

An issue with Prohm (And I am a huge fan of him). You sent Lard away for the summer to straighten up, don't hurt our chances of winning games we should just to prove a point.

I know this is an unpopular opinion but just think how many people would be pissed if we missed the tournament because of losing the Mizzou game.

I pretty much think the rehab assignment should take care of any punishment for the guy. Not for wins and losses, but because he apparently did what he needed to do in addressing the issue.

If there's more to it than that, suspend away. If not, rehab should be the end of it.

Going to rehab wasn’t the punishment for run ins with the law, that was a gift. The punishment is going to be sitting a game.

Update from Prohm on the Alabama St game. Reading the tea leaves, no Lard for game 1.

@TravisHines21 Steve Prohm declined to give an update on Cameron Lard today beyond that he didn't scrimmage vs. Wisconsin. Prohm said he'd provide an update after the opener Tuesday.

I do not expect Lard to play Tuesday.

@TravisHines21 Prohm also said he expected all four freshmen to play against Alabama State.

@TravisHines21 Zoran Talley (nose) is questionable for Tuesday's opener, Prohm said.

@AlexHalsted Steve Prohm anticipates all four freshmen getting some sort of minutes in Tuesday's season-opener against Alabama State. Sounds like Michael Jacobson will start at the five for the Cyclones in the opener.

Is Talleys broken nose some kind of treatment resistant super break? Seems like guys break their nose and are back the next day in the mask.

I had mine broken... long story... my junior year of high school.

I ran in a track meet 48 hours later.

Granted, running is different than basketball, but you would think a mask would do it.

I just don't buy into WV being an elite team. They leaned on Miles and Carter so much the last couple of years. IMO they belong more with the teams 4-7 then 1-2. They have an elite front court, but last I checked. That won't win you many games in college basketball

They do have Bolden who will be a Junior and is a very good shooter and I think Ahmad is going to have a bounce back year. I wouldn't count out Huggins. I like them better than KState. I am also interested to see how Andrew Jones is for Texas. If he is back to his old self, Texas will have a great backcourt with him, Coleman and Roach.

Sorry if this one was already posted earlier. Projects ISU 9-9 in league play.

Side note: This guy is pretty high on Texas Tech (#33) but I saw someone had Tech ranked in their top 15 yesterday!

I hope Andrew Jones is healthy but hard to expect him to get back to his prime level this year. He had to loose a some of strength and would have been rusty before breaking his toe and further setting him back. Jones just getting back on the court would be a win for the UT program at this point let alone be a major contributor this year. I'd be looking for his time to be the next couple of years assuming he maintains his health.
You can see the talent of Coleman and Roach but last year they appeared to be better athletes than skill as basketball players. Another year of development both could make the jump to a all B12 team, but I am skeptical that Shocka is great developer of talent to get them there.

Texas has top 3 individual talent but If I were a fan I'd be concerned about those individuals playing as a team, realizing it and finishing in the bottom 4.
I have the opposite feeling on WV, Huggy can develop talent and coach up a top 7 talent team up to a top 4-5 finish playing his Press Virginia style.

At least he didn't use the word "basketball" in there because I don't know what Huggy's team plays but it sure as hell isn't basketball.

I've read his sentence at least ten times and still can't decipher what he was trying to say? He doesn't like WVU's chances this year, that's the first phrase, then he says Huggy can develop talent, okay, but what's the rest of it mean? He can take recruits that were graded 7th place talent, get them to play to a 4th/5th place finish because of the press? I mean it's hard to understand.

He was contrasting his thought that Texas under-performs with a thought that WVU will over-perform the talent they have. It makes more sense if you read it with the Texas sentence right before it.

The consensus on here before the season was an eight-man rotation of NWB, Wigginton, Horton-Tucker, Shayok, Talley, Jacobson, Young, and Lard.

We are down three of those.

I imagine our starting lineup on Tuesday night is going to be...

NWB
Wigginton
Horton-Tucker
Shayok
Jacobson

...and, after that, we are going to have the other three freshmen and Lewis off the bench.

I kind of wonder who plays the most next. Experience says Lewis, positional need says Conditt, the scrimmage says Haliburton, and athleticism says Griffin.

It will be an interesting tune up for Mizzou and Maui.

I like that lineup. It reminds me of the four-guard lineup with Deonte Burton at the 4 that we ran two years ago (only with more experience at the 5). Jacobson is free to concentrate on defense and rebounds in such a lineup, cleaning up the trash on the boards.

I imagine Horton-Tucker might never go to the bench if he is as productive as he can be, and his stat line from the Nebraska scrimmage was very encouraging.

Question -- who was the last Cyclone to start every game of his career from his freshman season onward? I know Hogue did it as a JUCO for two years, and Wigginton is on his way to doing it, but who else has done it lately for at least 2-3 years? Anybody?

I remember Brackins coming off the bench a few times for being late to practice. I remember Fred started Godfrey over Melvin a few times his freshman year, too.

Georges, Monté, and Matt obviously did not do it.

So... who? Anybody?

I can't think of anyone since Fizer.

EDIT: nope. Fizer missed starting 5 games as a Freshman and 1 game as a sophomore.
