Cincinnati is a lock. I feel like Houston is a lock too. Memphis has to be right up there. Kind of struggle with the fourth between UCF and SMU, picked UCF.
I picked Central Florida also, plus Houston and Cincy are Locks.....IMHO

The correct answers are UCF, Houston, Cincinnati, byu. All large schools with recent success in big markets. That said none of the above if we have even a sliver of a chance for big or pac.

It’s BYU, UCF, and Cincinnati with the fourth being USF or Houston, maybe Memphis.

That’s still a “Big Least” situation, but robbing the American of their top teams increases the gap between that conference and the Big 12.

I’m having a really hard time picking 4 as I can make a good case for a lot of these. But when I whittle it down, my four are BYU, UCF, Boise State, and Cincinnati.

i’d probably invite them football only to avoid travel expenses for trimmed down athletic budgets.

I settled on these four, because I think they are the schools with the right combination of compelling brands, subscriber base, immediate solid performance, and long term staying power. Thoughts?

Not many drivable road trips for ISU in the East division you show above.

I would not want to split up the old Big8 rivalries. KU, KSU, ISU and Okie State should be in one division.

True that BYU + 2 Texas schools per division throws that off. But with 9 conference games and a crossover we’d play KSU annually and we’d play KU and OSU 60% of the time, or a little more often than every other year (which was how often we played OSU from 1996 to 2011 anyway).

This needs more love. In a year they were in the NY6 conversation most of the year, when they played some games against the AAC and a huge game against Coastal as undefeateds, they drew less than UCF/Houston/Cincy/Memphis

Wasnt that Coastal game on ESPNU?

Apparently their fans are pretty arrogant from what I understand. Not that they could be more than the schools they would be replacing.

There's no way they are more evil than Baylor as a corrupt "religious" institution and no way they could be more arrogant than KU basketball fans or the Neb/A&M/Texas fans who have left.

I've always been fine with BYU and I'm pretty skeptical of all religious organizations of any faith. I would have added BYU when Colorado left to completely nullify that loss. I was torn at the time if Louisville, TCU or WVU was the second best school to replace Nebraska. WVU/TCU have been fine but neither adds as many tv/streaming service eyeballs as BYU would have.

BYU and Cincy are no brainers, Houston probably is too, the 4th gets tricky. I would rather bring a team from MT to join BYU but none are appealing, they would be quite the outlier, especially if we added 2/3 teams from EST.

I know the poll says pick 4, but if it were up to me I’d add BYU and Cindy and stop there. Gets us back to 10 for the CCG, you’ve added a couple solid football programs and gotten someone else out east for WV.

And we’d also keep the “fewer mouths to feed” model the Big 12 Part Deux used the past 10 years. I don’t think anyone else on the list brings enough to split the pie further.

They shot themselves in the foot when they left the MWC. It was the wrong reaction to Utah's Pac promotion.

The MWC was really building and about to add Boise State, then as soon as Boise State joins, TCU and Utah get promoted to P5 and BYU goes independent.

There were a few years there where the MWC had a legit national championship gripe from Utah's perfect season and the top of the league was significantly tougher than very down Big East and ACC.

Obviously everyone's first choice is to wind up in another Power conference, but it's also possible that no one wants the Big 12 leftovers. If we were to expand by 2-8 teams, I'm curious as to what the most popular choices would be. Feel free to explain/justify your picks & rankings. Poaching from another Power conference (or Notre Dame) is highly improbable at this point. Please save the b*tching about how bad our options are for another thread.

I maxed out the poll, so not making the cut are:

UCONN, Tulane, Northern Illinois, Military Academies, & NDSU (too bad).

In this scenario, the B8 are not invited to a P4, after tx/ou exit...

I honestly believe you have to minimize adds since very few will add $/school. The reality is, every school outside the "power" conferences, is trying to get in. So, you max out revenue in order to make yourself as attractive as you can until you get an invite.

I would say BYU & UCF... if possible football only adds and for basketball keep it to the current teams. Cinci, Memphis and Hou are interesting. But it comes down to size, and money. I think those are the best options.

Geography goes out the window... this is not a marriage, this is get as much $ as you can to max out your program and get an invite.
