Eustachy Gives Back Money

I think Geoffrey hated LE as well.
I think this time line is correct, if not let me know.

Larry Gone
I dont think LE is gone if Pete doesnt die.

IMO, Larry was gone regardless...I thought BVDV was a bad AD, and I really liked Larry as a person...I also thought he was a phenominal coach...but he put the University in a really tough situation...then throw in the facts that the administration didn't like him already, there was a rift among the returning players for the following year, and player's family members were publically making threats on the University to get rid of Larry, and they really didn't have too much of a choice but to get rid of him (granted they still handled the situation horribly)...

Larry still treats his players the same at Southern Miss...and still goes off on his tirades on them...this is why Sullivan's dad was upset. The only thing he has changed is that he got help for his drinking problem.

I think Larry is a great coach and a fun guy to be around and listen to...and I think if you buy into what he is preaching, he will get the absolute most out of you as a player...but I don't know if I could ever send my kid to play for him after seeing firsthand some of the tirades he has on his players.

iowast8fan- I agree with you and stand corrected. I assumed Sullivan's dad was religious based on Jake and maybe I should have said if he is religious, he should show some compassion, or as you said, not brought religion into it at all. What I really meant is that I thought considering what Larry had done for the program it would have been the compassionate and right thing to make him take some time off to see if he could get his life in order. It would have helped solve the p.r. problem and imo should have been a satisfactory solution to everybody involved.

I for one would think it would be a great come-back story. You always hear about that in American society. Giving people second chances.

Would show the loyalty in him from Cyclone nation, good PR on the sports-channels, would bring up his earlier/amazing success with the Clones. Plus we would have a coach that knows how to coach a Big 12 basketball club. (That is recruiting, adjustments....and getting the best out of his players...and what role they all need to play.) Haven't seen that here in some time.

And he still loves ISU.
Man, I want him back.

Back when this all happened, I thought the same thing. Now, I'm not so sure it would have worked.

First, Larry himself said recently that at the time he didn't believe he had a problem. I'm not sure that a forced rehab would have helped. Second, Larry and BVDV would have still been working together and still hating each other. Not a good situation. Third, I think the publicity would have killed recruiting. Forth, assuming the forced rehab would not have worked, things could have gotten much, much worse.

After all these years, I am finally thinking that letting him go was for the best.

, I'm not sure I could ever send my kid to play for Larry after seeing some of the tirades he has had on players...but he is a great coach, no denying that.

I would send my kid to play for him just for that reason. If you are mentally tough the kid would be fine, if he wasn't he would sure become a man fast!!!

You realize Larry is 74-78 at S. Miss, don't you?

His record is worse than that if you take out the Transylvania U and High Point College. This is a good PR move and will help him get another year at Southern Miss but if he does not go to post season after 6 years as the head coach he will be let go.

The crowd that filled the airwaves and internet calling LE a dirtbag, drunk, etc, helped make the decision easy for BV to run him out of here. Probably the same crowd that helped JP get rid of Morgan. LE had some big off court problems at the time, including some that some people probably don't know about. Imo the compassionate and right decision would have been to put him on 6 months or a year leave of absence to go thru rehab and get his life in order. Morgan could have ably run the program until Larry got back. I'd bet the last 3 years would have been a whole lot better with a rehabbed LE and Morgan running the show. As a season ticketholder, I don't know if I can take another year like the last 3.

That is exactly how I thought things should have been handled in this situation. Never should have been let go.

Exactly right!! Morgan got a bad rap, but he could win road games and at least stem the tide til Larry came back.

Some of you want LE back? Seriously? Look at his record since Jamal left. Outside of two great years he hasn't done a whole lot.

I have a hard time believing that he was a much better coach than WM or even McDermott.

That being said, I sure loved the guy while he was here.
Only 2 Conference Championships for Larry...that's all. Tell me ONE, just ONE positive thing Greg McDermott has done since he's been here....yeah...exactly.
