Eustachy Gives Back Money

I cross my fingers and just dream of what it would be like to hire him back to come dig us out of this basketball hell hole!!!

So are you going to support Mac no matter what happens the next 2 years?

ISU should allow GMcD to coach out his contract provided he does not: violate NCAA rules & regs, or graduation rates fall below requirements, and / or also personal / civil conduct (such as the ISU coach arrested for child porn on ISU computer)....you know the usual stuff.......

Yeah if he goes 0-24 next year and our budget has the money (which it doesn't) to pay his final year, then maybe, just maybe, I'd consider terminating his contract one year early. He hasn't shown me anything that justifies termination, same for Morgan, .....I just feel GMcd's record shows he's a below average coach.

Still think he was the best coach ISU ever had.

he certainly cut more nets down than anybody else. I love the guy. He was at once the best and worst Iowa State had. He rose to back to back titles and then almost single handedly torpedoed the program. Still, what a ride and I wouldn't trade those titles even if we could go back and erase the natural light incidents.

Agreed!! Larry is my favorite. Southern Miss is lucky to have him...and we're STUCK with McDermott and his brutal, losing style.
UGGHHHH. At least with Larry's teams, every player knew their role and you knew exactly the kind of effort you would get from his teams every game.

Oh yeah...totally agree here.

McD is never ever going to be the coach larry is. I want Larry back! SHould have NEVER been let go.

I for one would think it would be a great come-back story. You always hear about that in American society. Giving people second chances.

Would show the loyalty in him from Cyclone nation, good PR on the sports-channels, would bring up his earlier/amazing success with the Clones. Plus we would have a coach that knows how to coach a Big 12 basketball club. (That is recruiting, adjustments....and getting the best out of his players...and what role they all need to play.) Haven't seen that here in some time.

And he still loves ISU.
Man, I want him back.

BVDV did not like Eustachy at all...but couldn't do anything about it (because of Larry's 2 Big 12 titles) until the pics in the Des Moines Register came out...Larry would often be late or send assistant coach to banquets and obligations in which he would be asked to speak to the public...there was also an incident where Chris Alexander had not been around the school for a while, and he came back right before conference play started...Administration wanted Chris to sit for a while, but Larry played him big minutes on New Year's Eve...Personally, I was a big Larry fan, but Bruce wasn't about to be giving Larry a second chance...also, I'm not sure I could ever send my kid to play for Larry after seeing some of the tirades he has had on players...but he is a great coach, no denying that.

The crowd that filled the airwaves and internet calling LE a dirtbag, drunk, etc, helped make the decision easy for BV to run him out of here. Probably the same crowd that helped JP get rid of Morgan. LE had some big off court problems at the time, including some that some people probably don't know about. Imo the compassionate and right decision would have been to put him on 6 months or a year leave of absence to go thru rehab and get his life in order. Morgan could have ably run the program until Larry got back. I'd bet the last 3 years would have been a whole lot better with a rehabbed LE and Morgan running the show. As a season ticketholder, I don't know if I can take another year like the last 3.

Steve Barnes would've run the show...Barnes was Larry's right hand man, Morgan was the main recruiter, who was on the road most of the time, and was not involved in the x's and o's much at all.

There was also a rift among the team when the Natty Light photos were released, and many angry parents...Jake Sullivan's dad went as far as to say he'd make sure no Minnesota recruit ever went to play for Iowa State as long as Eustachy was there...and he wasn't just talking about the photos in the Des Moines Register.

We all knew Larry had a drinking problem and it was overlooked as long as he was winning. Anybody think those photos would have got him canned coming off a big 12 title? He also had an off court problem that may have contributed to his drinking, and I'm not excusing it. I have to believe if somebody talked to Sullivan's dad and explained the whole situation, and that LE would be suspended for 6 months or a year and his situation reviewed at that time, I have a hard time believing a religious person wouldn't show some compassion.

I have a hard time believing a religious person wouldn't show some compassion.

I know a lot of religious people who are anything but compassionate. I also know a lot of non-religious people who are some of the most compassionate, caring people I ever met. I think throwing religion into this argument is irrelevent.

I think Geoffrey hated LE as well.
I think this time line is correct, if not let me know.
Pictures on the internet after the Mizzou game (I saw them myself before being publisehed in the DSM RAG)
Pete Taylor dies
Pictures in DSM Register
Larry Gone
I dont think LE is gone if Pete doesnt die.

Some of you want LE back? Seriously? Look at his record since Jamal left. Outside of two great years he hasn't done a whole lot.

I have a hard time believing that he was a much better coach than WM or even McDermott.

That being said, I sure loved the guy while he was here.
