Espn layoffs gameday affected

If I had to rank them, I wish they had gotten rid of pompous Rece Davis or Kirk before Pollack. Or never brought on McAfee. Certainly those moves would have saved a lot more money than DP, but he did not seem to add a lot if not talking about Georgia.
Rece has really taken a sharp downturn the last few seasons. He can't hide his Bama/SEC bias, inserts his snide remarks whenever he can, and preaches some ******** Christianity on the ESPN college football podcasts. Gross. He used to be Fowler lite, but now he's just a microcosm of ESPN's slanted coverage of the sport.

I don't understand the appeal. He seems like a fun personality, and I don't mind his takes, but I'm missing what makes him this media superstar.

Yeah he was independent and built a base of fans. Funny guy and new. He don’t belong in espn and they will ruin that show. People liked Pat because he was genuin. He can’t be like that on ESPN. They will ruin that show. Mcafee is the newest version of Jim Rome.

As someone already pointed out, McAfee in small doses I think is pretty good. He's loud and brash and presents his honest takes on things and that seems to appeal to a lot of viewers, dude has a massive following.

I like Dan Lebatard and Stugotz…. so take that fwiw. They don’t take anything too seriously at all and realize it’s just sports and it’s not really that important in the scheme of things. I like that.

Dan Lebetard left ESPN a long time ago... so there's that.

I don't watch daily ESPN shows, so most of the layouts I don't have opinion about. As long as their game announcers are elite, I am good.

But I was really disappointed in their NBA draft coverage. A situation where I think layoffs have hurt the quality/knowledge of their on-air talent.

NBA Draft coverage came before the layoffs... so the sucky coverage is independent of these layoffs.

Most males like men that look like alpha dogs that know it all, and will leach on to them like a cult. It’s been that way for a very long time. Happens in politics, happens in sports, happens with broadcasters now apparently too.

Maybe it’s just me, but I feel that a very large population of southern white males especially follow that model. Given that’s also where the SEC thrives, it’s a double whammy.

What if they had a show where they showed highlights from every major sporting event, and had 2 people at a desk narrating it. Then in all the other time they could show live sports.

Nobody would watch, just like basically nobody watches now.

Last week was only the most recent round of layoffs this spring. They have also done multiple layoffs over last 2-4 years.

But I agree poor production quality for an event like draft also indicates loss of high caliber off camera folks who do a lot of research.
