Synthetic diamond=cubic zirconium?
Cyclone1985 nailed it. No ill intentions, just something that was in my mind as one of my good friends is going through this exact same process. We both thought the "2 month salary" number was a bit ridiculous. Should have put ain my earlier statement.
Synthetic would be a lab created diamond that should be chemically identical to a mined diamond
after doing another search, apparently if it's labeled a 'diamond simulant' instead of synthetic, then it's something completely different (like a cubic zirconium)
so from the description of the product on the link i posted, that's probably a cubic zirconium and not an actual diamond... damn site fooled me; thanks a lot google
Iowa Diamond should be on your list, know your 4 C's and you'll be ok.
Would a lab created ring be similar to putting a BMW body on a 1972 ford pinto with 200k miles on it..? Only spent couple hundred, but it looks like a BMW!
Sorry to bump an old thread, but I too am thinking of popping the question. Don't feel like reading through all of the posts, but is it worth it to look at places such as Iowa Diamond, or are the internet stores going to be a better deal for the most part? Thanks in advance.

Anyone bought from the place in Ames downtown?

I went to a bunch of mall places, then to Joseph's (I think), and ended up at Anglo. I thought the prices were good, and they did a much better job of explaining (and showing) the difference between diamonds. That may have been due to my comfort level with the process though.
I'd definitely not be comfortable buying one on the internet.
This. Anglo did not pressure into buying certain size or dollar amount. Same cannot be said for mall stores. They just want to make a quick sale and could care less about long term customers.
I can't say much outside of my Anglo experience, but I would recommend a non-chain jeweler--so every mall store would out.
I might go check out Anglo sometime. Is is true that you can negotiate on the price? Thanks a lot everyone!
