Eli king?

Honestly, from what little I've seen of him, he looks comfortable out there. First game, he scored and had a really nice assist. He's not forcing things and I would like him to take some of Grill's minutes in a blowout like today.

He’s got a good handle, jump shot, and mid range. But right now getting Holmes and Gabe and Lipsey minutes together is important too. Once Eli figures out D for Otz he will play plenty.

Wasn’t Matt Thomas a day one starter? Lol

Edit: Yeah he last his starting job to Monte Morris, but point still stands.

People expected him to be like senior year JJ Reddick his frosh/soph year is my memory, then when he actually was a total stud junior and senior year the same people were kind like "yeah we were too hard on him". It was start of a long stretch where everybody rides one player for a whole season. But memories are generally poor, maybe I'm remembering wrong.

At the time he was out highest ranked recruit in quite a while so that didn't help. If Omaha isn't lights out right away people are really going to be impatient. Even freshman year Fizer was really unpolished, it was just raw potential.

OTZ said on CWs pod preseason that Eli will take a bit of time to develop, which is really a luxury because of our depth. Excited for his future.

And it seems like TJ is really good at communicating what he wants to players so it's likely Eli knows where he stands.

Somehow for some it turns into 'well we got to the 2nd week of November and decided nothing can change during the season so spot minutes it is'.

So give him virtually no time at all in a game like this? That should help his development.

If we’re all being honest…. it’s basically a sign that they missed on him and don’t care if he leaves. That’s what it has meant in the past.
Every time i think you've said the dumbest thing i have ever heard, you keep talking.

God I hope this is sarcasm, we’re 2 games in. In 11 days we play Nova on a neutral floor then North Carolina if we win, so maybe TJ is building his rotation for that tourney. The Thanksgiving tourney in NY was a springboard to a solid season last year. If TJ wants to work a freshman in a little more slowly that’s OK. Grill, Kalcheur and Holmes all need run and all these new guys need to play together. Being in a position to compete with Nova and Carolina is a lot more important right now than getting Joey King minutes.

I suspect his defending is behind other freshman
That's the impression I got. He had 3 fouls in about 6 minutes of play in the first game, which suggests that either (A) he isn't defending correctly, or (B) he knows his defense is why he isn't playing more, so he's trying too hard and making silly fouls.

Yeah it's kind of too bad, since we honestly play good help d and rotate well, if he didn't hack and just played toward his help he'd be fine.
