We need more bulk, hopefully we can add that in the off-season. Of course, the opponent shouldn't be allowed to displace you, but thank goodness they caught McKay pushing around Gathers.

It would have changed the game if ISU had gotten more rebounds. That doesn't mean Edozie would've gotten many of those boards. He's big, but he's gonna struggle with Gathers, and he's not gonna go up and get some boards like McKay does.
I'm sure Fred always knows more than me. But I'd play Edozie some vs Gathers and Ridley. I'd also have played Edozie in a game like WVU where they are going to call a foul every single play no matter how timidly we try to avoid fouls, might as well do some damage and save foul trouble on other guys.
I rarely ever doubt or question CFH, but this has me scratching my head. Even after the Maryland loss, when we played a physical team, he said he should have played Edozie more. I cannot understand why he doesn't get minutes against tough teams that are killing us on the boards.
The only thing I can think of is that it means we give up too much on the offensive end, but CFH should be able to figure out some sets with both McKay and Edozie on the court.

The thought process here by most of you baffles me.
Hoiberg has been our coach for long enough that you should realize that his strategy is to bring players to Ames that have diverse and multiple skill sets and then utilize them to create mismatches that favor us against our opponents. In short...we want to play the game on our terms...not the terms of the opponent.
I just do not see Hoiberg ever voluntarily ceding the style of play to our opponent. Just because WVU and BU want the game to devolve into a shoving match or fistfight does not mean that we should agree and decide to put players on the court with a less diverse skill set to match them.

Believe Edozie should have court time against the thug teams. Matt is now eight man off bench from the way he shoots gametime. Abdel had three turnovers mostly due to slipping off the court. Georges needs to make his free throws better as does McKay. Hogue needs to be allowed to shoot more threes.Nice to see Naz, BDJ and Monte did a better job driving the lane. What was up with allowing so many open threes to start the game. Baylor had three guys in the 40 per cent plus range firing away and the game was essentially one sided most of the time.
He's shooting 81% from the line which is good for second on the team among the 8 man rotation.
Please look up stats once in a while rather than forming an opinion based on one miss during one game.
He started the season 90% and has been more like a 55-60% ft shooter recently.
In reality he's probably going to be a 70-75% ft shooter like his other years, not horrible or excellent.
The bottom line is winning, not who is able to adhere to their ideal style of play. ISU gave up 19 offensive rebounds and 23 second chance points to BU. It will be very tough to win any more games if that continues to happen, and you can bet that the other physical teams in the conference are going to try the same thing since ISU has been shown vulnerable to that style of play. Sometimes it is necessary to adapt and make compromises to reduce the impact of obvious problems.

BU got 23 second chance points off of 19 offensive rebounds. If Edozie could have gotten say five of those rebounds that ISU otherwise didn't get, in the overall score differential, isn't that about the same as him scoring about 10 points?
Probably fair assessment. Take away 5 of theres and give us 5 assuming we score on half the extra rebounds. Plus Edozie shoots good free throws.
It's stupid for me to question anything Fred does, but Edozie's lack of PT last night floors me. Quite frankly I'm not so sure Edozie's ability to crash the offensive glad doesn't make him as effective on offense as Thomas and even if there is a sacrifice offensively it doesn't matter when you are giving up three cracks at a bucket each trip defensively.
Mismatches are great on offense, but that mismatch better outweigh what you sacrifice on D and rebounding. Physical, muck it up teams tend to excel in the tourney in general. Like last year I love this team's guts and resolve but I am worried about match ups vs really physical teams.
And how do you get to "play the game on our terms"? By taking away the opponent's terms. In this case, Baylor was having it's way on the offensive boards and that needed to be stopped. You win by neutralizing an opponent's strengths, not by dreaming about always playing on your own terms.

This is exactly my sentiment. I'm not in the practices so I don't know if Edozie is not doing what Fred tells him to, but I certainly felt that Edozie's play in the non-conference should have earned him 5-10 minutes per game in conference, and yet we've seen zilch. I can understand why he wouldn't play at West Virginia because we needed ball handlers and Edozie is not a ball handler, but against Baylor? Gosh, the Baylor game was made for Edozie!
We go 10-19 from beyond the arc and still lose because Baylor is getting two and three shots every time down the floor. Just ridiculous. It's so hard to watch because you know what's going to happen before it does. Motley and Gathers are going to vacuum up all the trash the rest of the team throws at the basket.
