Edozie and/or Gibson

Our Godfrey would actually be Hogue, IMO. It's just that Hogue is a much better all around player.
Agree, although wouldn't mind having Richard Amardi on this team right now...Leath needs to be fired for his horrible timing on the Bubu suspension.

As a freshman Gibson played 10 minutes per game, shot 65% from the field and averaged 4.8 points and 2 rebounds. If he could do that as a junior this year it would be a big help.

I had hoped that Doc could light a fire under Percy this year. In my opinion, Percy has the God given talent. However, God given talent OR warrior like work ethic alone won’t cut it. In this league you need both! Maybe I am wrong, but I just don’t see a burning will to win or warrior like work ethic there and I am not sure how you instill it.

You don't. It's either there or it isn't.

Edozie and Percy wouldn't have given us anything last night other than maybe fouls on defense and possibly some rebounds. The contribution on that end of the floor absolutely would not have made up for glaring spacing problem it would have caused on the offensive end.

Playing those guys would have been asking KU to pack in their defense in even more and clogging up the driving lanes even more. That's what would have happened since Gibson and Edozie are absolutely no threat to shoot or to dribble drive from the perimeter.

They just don't fit with our offensive scheme at all.

Sadly, I have to agree with this. Unless you are 6'10" or taller with a legitimate offensive AND defensive presence, Fred is going to want you to be able to be a perimeter threat. His current offense is based on spacing and pulling the other teams bigs away from the paint to allow Hogue/Ejim/Kane to crash the boards and get out in transition.

While we needed rebounding last night, our defense still created 24 turnovers. Embiid had 7 and Wiggins had 6. Comparably, our entire team only had 8. We were outrebounded by 17, but we turned them over 16 more times. Pretty much a wash. Our defense was not the problem, our offense was. If you didn't look at the box score you probably wouldn't think we actually had one more offensive rebound than KU. We just couldn't score when we got the ball back.

In the end, you can argue either side and make your argument stick. It's a complete game, not a series of mutually exclusive events.

Most games I would agree, but did you see our shooting percentage on 3Ps? I'd give it a go that Gibson going his left shoulder on the block and Edozie's garbage buckets would be more points than what we got from Georges at the 3P line. Then there is the extra size for defense (in Edozie's case) and rebounding.

Again, those two must be horrible, not even mid-major players, to see as little time as they have given our weaknesses, foul trouble, and fatigue.

I think Gibson and Edozie need to play more too. First of all, I thought Edozie showed some really good signs and instincts of developing into a useful reserve. He is probably never going to be a serious offensive threat, but he did a good job of rebounding and playing defense, imho. He had his moment I guess at BYU with his blocked shot.

Percy is more of a mystery. He did show some skills his first year, and had his moments last year. He played in 31 of the games last year, and started 4. Despite his limited minutes, do people realize that he was the team's leading shot blocker? Now, granted some of those blocks were against weaker competition, but the other players had those same (and more) opportunities.

I don't get why Fred does not play them at least a few minutes a game. In the first half last night, ISU "bigs" looked gassed to me. Bent over, hands on hips during breaks in the action late in the half. It's understandable. They are battling players usually bigger than them, and if they don't foul them, they have very little chance of getting a rest. It is a long season. If Niang, Hogue, and Ejim don't get spelled a little bit each half, I'm afraid they just won't have much left come tourney time. Both of their average minutes are up already over last year, even with the addition of Hogue to the front line.

Another thing is Percy and Edozie are not going to get any better or more beneficial to the team just sitting on the bench.
