How long to drive from the DSM area to College Station?

Yahoo maps says about 14 hours. Pretty accurate?

Debating either a flight or drive to AM next week.

We drove down there for conference and I think it took us about 16. But we were in a bus and had to take mandatory stops.

Its about 14 hours, depends on how often and how long your stops are. (I try to combine my gas, restroom, and food stops all into the same exit\stop, so i keep a pretty good pace)

I did the drive from college station to des moines in may helping my brother move back after graduating from there. Oklahoma and Kansas are the worst parts.

Take 69 North through Eastern Oklahoma, around Joplin and up 71 in MZ. Takes roughly 80 some miles off the trip. Much more scenic as well just make sure you do the speed limit in the little towns you go through.
Small town cops trying to make thier budgets!

hopefully it goes by quick, leaving Thursday driving through the night and gettin into College Station on Friday!!! I am jacked!

Have fun!!! Sounds like a blast... I want to set up a trip with some friends to an ISU bowl game this year... :)

drive during sun up hours if you can through Kansas and Oklahoma. It's like one straight road for 400 miles!! snore city if it's night time and you aren't wired on a half dozen 5 hour energy's.

We drove through Kansas and Oklahoma during the night on our way to the Houston Bowl.. It was nice because it saved us from having to look at a bunch of brown dead grass. The sun started to rise between Dallas and Houston and we were delightfully greeted by more dead brown grass. :dull:

The guys I'm going with have made it to Houston (where we're staying Friday) in 15. We combine food, gas, and restroom. CS looks a little closer to Iowa than Houston, but it might be a wash w/back roads, etc.

Definitely will be a wash. There is no great way to get to College Station except from Houston.

We are driving down too. 6 of us leaving Ames/DM Thursday night at 6ish.
You all going to try and meet up in the same tailgaiting lot?

Our original plan was to park in the ramp across the street from Kyle and wander around, but we aren't really committed to anything. Looks like the public lots are a bit of a ways from the stadium. Not terribly far or anything like that, though.

You don't drive to Houston first to get to College Station if you are coming from Iowa.

I35 to Waco then hop on Highway 6 (via loop 340). Highway 6 is almost all 4 lanes now (I think there is a stretch of about 12 miles that isn't).

or

I45 to Madisonville than hop on Highway 21 (about 30 miles of two lane highway).

-It is 4 lane from Dallas if you go to waco and down

-Do not plan on being able to get into the lot across from Kyle Field, not likley to happen.

-Park on the east or north parking ramps (these might even be a challenge), walk across camups will be a nice wallk.

-Or take the bus in from the mall.

we are driving to houston, staying with my cousin an ISU alum, then heading up to CS Saturday, taligating than going to watch 88,000 silent people sit on their hands as the Cyclones run through and around them. Anyone know what tailgating is like down there?

The only way it makes 88,000 is if ISU is bringing in about 15,000 to 20,000.
