Dream car

Just passed a2023 Corvette (cardinal color) Stingray, and have wipe the drool of phone and window. MSRP of$157,000. What would your dream car be? Need something to take mind off of politics and football.

Was this in Des Moines? I saw a red Corvette on 235 tonight and I don't know what the hell a sting ray is, but it was weird looking.

Ask me next week and it might be something different, but for now a Mercedes SLS

If you were in the back seat, the car was not moving side to side...;)
Never said you did, I said up and down, these cars are not fun to ride around in, plain and simple. A blast to drive and tool around in, but no way you want to jump in one and drive 400 miles.

If we are talking imaginary cars (just as likely to own) then I would like the Major Boobage flying TransAm from South Park.

Also a gen 2 Trans Am restomod with modern brakes/motor/trans/interior/stereo system would be right up there with a dream car.

Where to start. So many great choices, but for a realistic dream car on my mind recently that is often overlooked is a 70's/80's model Corvette Stingray. Something with the front wheel gills and the side body exhaust pipes. Such great curves on the body. Put a big block and a manual transmission in it. Nice cars can be found for $15-30k.Screenshot_20230921_215915_Samsung Internet.jpg

1999 Acura NSX Alex Zanardi Edition. (US Version of the 1997 Type S).

Honda S2000.
I spent about 6 months going back and forth on whether it was worth the effort to buy one of these. I looked like I was in a sausage casing and my knees hit the dash along with my legs hitting the non adjustable steering wheel. There were threads 100's of pages long of other tall/fat people swapping out seats so they could fit. What an icon/timeless car.

Love the look of them, but an awful daily driver car IMO. Reving the crap out of them is fun tooling around curvy roads or on the track, but the lack of low end torque makes it a burden to drive around town.

lots of good choices in this thread. I find it entertaining that people want a musclecar from the 60s or 70s but have never really driven one. Its honestly somewhat disappointing and underwhelming in terms of true driving dynamics. I view old cars more as a work of art in terms of styling, proportions, and use of stainless and chrome.

I have some of my dream cars....1960 Cadillac Coupe Deville, 1991 Nissan 300zx twin turbo, 2006 Mercedes CLS55 AMG, and a bunch of others. Been lucky to find them when they were obtainable, or in condition i could afford and fixed up.....
This. All day long. I have a 78 Corvette and while I love it, after about 20 minutes I've had enough fun. Granted, with that being said, it's a Silver Anniversary model, and I would love to have a matching Pace Car from 78 to have "the collection".

Ultimate dream though has to be a 2004 Ferrari 360 Modena. I've got no idea why, but it speaks to me.

I have a 49 Chevy 5 window pickup sitting in a shed. The dream is to put it on a mustang II suspension frame and try and redo the engine. The plan is to paint it an iridescent purple. If I ever get around to completing this my wife said she gets a 69 camaro that's black with pink stripes.

If I thought spending millions on a car was worthwhile it would be a McLaren f1 or a duesenberg model j

Something pretty close to this:

1968-chevrolet-chevelle

1968 Chevelle
significantly upgraded from stock

This MIGHT be owned by a guy here at work. Looks almost the same, but I think his is a 70-something, and different wheels. Same paint job though.

He has it 98% restored but is always trying to get "one more thing" working right.

You have to be careful about sports cars and body size. Some people just won't fit. However, the Corvette from 1984 to now does fit a taller/bigger person. And it's top model will out perform 99% of the cars from the same era (C4 1984-1996, C5 1997-2004, C6 2005-2013, C7 2014-2019, C8 2021-)
