Down goes Iowa

Are you being serious? I totally expected Keegan Murray to be first team all American when we were making fun of Fran for taking him and his brother. Fran has taken low rated recruits and turned them into solid players. Nicholas Baer was a walk on and was a solid contributor.
Murray happened to work out for Iowa but that doesn't have anything to do with Fran or the program. Baer was a hard worker but honestly he played way too many minutes and my Iowa friends would tell you the same thing. The list of Fran reaches and busts is a lot longer that his hits...

and his rebounding. he got them several extra possessions per game. kris doesnt seem to have the same grit on the boards and is even more of a beta than his brother.

Absolutely. He mad a ton of effort plays that don't necessarily show up on a stat sheet.

And now for the 2nd half. Patrick much more effective from 3/long 2s than his 1st half constantly trapped spin moves. Iowa has some pretty good Hoiberg like inbound plays, but on the other side of the coin piss poor D on some of the Spidy's inbounds. Burton incredible snookery on Toussaint taking that charge. Again, lazy D by Iowa on inbounds. Back to back good O by both teams around 2:45 mark. Keegan isolation by Iowa really good, but too late in the game. Unreal shot and 1 by KO at 1:24. Yes. missed foul on Chris with the ref in perfect position and view. But honestly, that wasn't the shot Iowa wanted. Credit Richmond. All-in-all Richmond played better. Tough "D". The main reason IMO why Iowa lost was very weak inbound "D" (san that last turnover), but I feel that was more of a bad decision to cross court the inbound pass by Richmond. Great inbound by Iowa but too little too late. Have these announcers watched a single B12 game? And they called this a "Rugby match". Geez.

Did you catch the two inbounds layups where Rebraca and I think it was Kris Kurray had their backs completely turned away from the play?

High basketball IQ.

Yeah let's go with Fran just gets lucky.

Fran has caught a sh!t ton of breaks at Iowa and that's not up for debate. Uhtoff, Marble, Jok, and Weiskamp all fell into his lap. Yeah, he took a chance on the Murray twins but that recruiting class for Iowa was in desperation mode.

Yes. That was what my inbound comments referred to. It's the way Fran coaches it. And then along comes Kane to embarrass it with the back bounce and they still don't change it. Puzzling.

I hate Iowa and Fran...but what do you mean by this? It wasn't an accident...I would think Iowa has done a decent job of developing guys. And the reaches and busts are more common in every program than "reaches" that become lottery picks. OK...I will now go back to laughing AT Iowa!

The reason Iowa was embarrassed yesterday all comes back to guard play in the tourney, and part of the reason why I'm optimistic about Iowa State tonight.

Bohannon was comoleley non-existent in the tourney as usual. He's really been carrying them from 3 the last month or so.

Perkins has looked like an All Big 10 guard the last 6 weeks, but he reverted right back to looking like a backup who can't do much of anything and crying about every foul.

Connor has really stepped up and hit some big shots lately but he's non-existent also.

Touissant is a complete dumpster fire in all phases of the gsme after hes been a solid role player.

The Murray's had a rough game but it all comes down to guard play in these tourney games. Their backcourt was a complete disaster for the 2nd straight year.

Like Garza, the Murray's have had a lot of outside of the program development.... I will give Fran credit for taking a chance on them, because nobody else in the country wanted them but lets get serious, Iowa was desperate.

Who are Iowa's recruits? I know they lose Jobo finally, and would guess Keagan would be gone, so that leaves two scholarships to pass out. I honestly have not heard who they are bringing in. Maybe Boothe will enter the portal and get an offer from Fran? That Ash kid did nothing but look like a dork on the sidelines.

BTW, it's not just Iowa, there are many other teams, but those end of the bench guys for Iowa stand the whole game. It has to be a distraction for teams. I remember in a close game we had (so it obviously wasn't Iowa) and they were doing a long inbounds pass and grill took off at a weird direction for a bit, when I saw the replay you can tell he caught the end of benchers guys basically standing on the inbounds line and looked to possibly be a player until Grill realized it was just a scrubber jumping around.

So someone else posted and I looked it up...but...Rebraca is 25 years old this year??!!

Twenty Five...Years....old.

How is that even possible?
He was born 25 years ago.

I'll be here all week.

this.

its been unreal the amount of legacy and lifelong hawk fans that have filled out his classes. and even more unlikely they would work out like they have. aaron white and tyler cook. thats the end of the list of non legacy or 'iowa kids' that fran has found.

you just dont see this at any school with real expectations and success.

So he had guys fall into his lap. Aside from Weiskamp I didn't expect much from the other 3. Does he not get credit for their successes? Legacy or not he deserves some credit for development.

I will actually cut Iowa some slack because studies have shown that teams really struggle to shoot in the bigger venues, especially in the football stadiums. Buffalo is a hockey venue so there is a ton of dead space behind the buckets like Wells Fargo Arena so it's definitely a sightline adjustment.

And Richmond goes all season not playing in big ten arenas. They also played in buffalo

It's more about scheme than it is about Fran developing guys. Jok, Weiskamp. Marble, and Uhtoff could all stroke it and Fran ran a lot of offense around them. There's a reason none of them have made it at the next level...
