Down goes Freddy

Why would he ever resign voluntarily and give up all the money? Has a coach ever done that?
Coaches resign all the time during the year when things are going south. Turgeron quit earlier this year before he even got a chance to get embarrassed in the Big 10.

I'm going to enjoy watching Nebby cough up that much cash just to move on to the next mediocre coach in their history of crappy basketball.

I can see it now............Fred resigns and Steve Prohm gets hired. Next year Steve surprises and wins 15-18 games. Meanwhile on Cyclonefanatic people are wringing their hands on countless threads stating how Steve should have better with Fred's roster.

Nebby has a not-so-secret guilty pleasure of paying coaches dead money.
It's not just their x-coaches getting paid. Nebraska was even paying an x-athletic director to not work for them.

They can go ahead and cash their Big 10 paychecks (if they're even getting a full share now), but it's gotta hurt them and their conference knowing their athletic program and their university has become a doormat. Hey Texas and Oklahoma, pay close attention.

We got Nebraska fans baffled on how bad he is there and claiming that Iowa state is a similarly bad program when he took over. No, no they were never similar. Nobody has been as bad as Nebraska basketball at the P5 level.

Good God….

this feels like one of those he is doing such a bad job its almost stealing money type things.

How crazy are contracts when he is pretty much burning Nebraska basketball to the ground (what was left of it anyway) and he walks away with 20 million for leaving.

Here is the past years for Fred.

ISU
Final year: Gets embarrassed by UAB in the first round - leaves for the bulls for 5yr/25 million.

Bulls:
Y1: missed the playoffs for first time in 8 years. People were not happy about this.
Y2: playoffs but got swept round 1. (biggest achievement, but was said to underachieve big time again)
ESPN ranked Hoiberg in 2017 as the worst head coach in the league
Y3: fired Fred after a 5-19 start.

Nebraska in March 2019 7yr contract for way too much money
Y1 - 7 wins
Y2 - 7 wins
Y3 - 6 wins and counting
He has 5 conference wins in almost 3 years. and 0-12 this year.

That is a whole lot of money and no results. Would be interesting to know where he would have ended up if he stayed in Ames? Maybe guys like TJ and crew were the ones getting the players and it really didn't matter too much about coaching.

Either way, he is probably going to get canned and make a crap ton of money from Nebraska. He should just hang it up and golf. I think he walked into a bad situation at Chicago, but he is smart enough, he should have seen it coming. Good luck Fred.

But he wasn't an authoritative coach there either - players griped that practices should be harder, he should coach them harder. Same as a Nebraska player recently said.

Can I get some of what you're smoking. Prohm and 15 wins with what NU has coming back?

Won't happen; Fred needs the money.

How on earth does Hoiberg need the $$...LMAO. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess he's not some addicted better who has lost all his money..

Fred had enough money to live comfortably forever with generations of his kids living pretty comfortably....after his NBA days...let alone money he made with ISU and Bulls..
