Don't freak out (Rhoads job question).

As long as he keeps ISU respectable, his name is going to come up and he will be contacted by other programs. JP may be able to increase his pay some and provide an long-term extension that provides stability, but in my opinion, the only thing that is going to really keep him here is his ties to the area. If those are as strong as we would like to think, we probably have a good shot at him retiring at ISU. If not, it's probably not a matter of if he'll go but when.

I think its good other programs are looking at Rhoads, means we have a good leader. No way does he leave for the foreseeable future, as long as Pollard meets his demands and he has done so already (football facilities), he will be our coach.

Give Rhoads whatever he wants, whether is is money, facilities, etc. Just do what he says.

I don't want to lose this guy.

Ohhh no. Flight tracker shows no flights from Ames to Urbana Champaign. That's got to mean it's a done deal- with all the secrecy!

OMG. OMG.

Does anyone have a visual confirmation that Rhoads is in Ames today?

You are more likely to have a visual confirmation of Keyser Soze than you are to have one of Rhoads.

He is supposed to be Iowan. Some say his father was a legend. Nobody believed he was real. Nobody ever saw him the last night the Cyclones ever set foot in Memorial Stadium. Nobody knew anybody who could cover Blackmon, but to hear Hawk fans tell it, anybody could have played for Rhoads, even a noisy scoreboard. You never knew.

That is his power. The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist. And like that, poof. He's gone.

I think that, despite OP's calm expression of the impending disaster that is about to befall Cyclone Nation, boys, the time is ripe for the Full Blown Nuclear Freak Out to commence.

Not a lateral pay move... I'm sure Illinois pays better than ISU...

Zook, who was in his 7th year at Illinois, was making 1.76 Million. Nothing too great...

That, and CPR would get a lot less latitude at Illinois than he will at ISU. He has built up enough good will here to last him a while. If he were to have a few losing seasons at Illinois, he would be out of a job, a al Turner Gill.
At ISU, CPR has the oportunity to build the program as he sees it.
At Illinois, he would be expendable. They don't seem to support the program as much as they should there. At ISU, football is being made a major priority and every effort is being made to make improvements.

I don't see CPR running out the door. When you get a family you like to be around "home" to raise them and watch out after the parents, an Iowa thing I guess. You also appreciate security, isu can offer that. It's nice when your boss isn't looking over your shoulder all the time, allows you to relax and concentrate on what you feel is important. Coaches, especially CPR, are competitive and want to win. JP is working on facilities and resources to assist CPR in winning, not having an athl dept as a roadblock is huge also.

I am not saying that everything is best left status quo. I just feel a comfortable raise, 200-300k area would show gratitude and lengthening his contract would give security and would keep him happy. Over the next few years our tv contracts will increase and we will have funds in case an offer attracted him.

It's going to take more than 200-300k.
