Don't freak out (Rhoads job question).

DON'T PANIC

... and always know where one's towel is.

Illinois would offer more money and has decent talent, but it would still be another rebuilding job to get them to that next level consistently. I don't think the Illinois AD is as supportive of the football program as ISU so CPR would not end up in a better position, despite a raise.

I think CPR would be more likely to leave for a better program that is more of a safe bet to be a winner, not a middle of the pack at best B1G team.
Indeed -- towels are extremely useful and an absolute necessity for traveling.

I think there is one way CPR leaves ISU. That is if he is not getting support from the AD and President. That's why Rich Rodriguez left WVU and that would drive CPR off. I think as long as he is getting the support equal to the rest of the conference, he will stay. I don't think his salary makes' two ***** to him. Anything can happen though as it has before.

There's lateral, and then there's "includes-an-80%-pay-raise" lateral.

This past season, Zook made about 53% more than Rhoads. Zook made $1.76 Million, Rhoads made $1.15 Million. Zook was in year 7 and had a Rose Bowl on his resume from year 4. CPR is in year 3. If he makes the Fiesta Bowl next year, I guarantee you he will be making more than $1.76 Million come year 5.

Arizona State was mentioned today on ESPN by Joe Schad as a team that is lookng at interviewing Paul Rhoads.

No offense to Rhoads intended, in any way, but why would Illinois go from a coach who just went 6-6 to one who is about to average about 6-6 over 3 straight years? Okay, losing to Minnesota should send anyone packing, and I guarantee Rhoads would never lose to a piece of garbage team like that - it would be as preposterous as him losing to Colorado or something like that...

Don't get me wrong - I believe that if Illinois could see the forest for the trees and could woo Rhoads away, he'd win the Legos division (or the other one - Liters? I'm still trying to get them straight) in year 2, and probably take the title, to boot.

But, from a booster/Illini fan perspective, you'd get tons of resistance. They don't want another firebreather: they want an effective, professional game manager (what most outside observers don't realize is that Rhoads is special at both).

See Gene Chizik.

It's perception of ISU. This is such a crappy job, that a record of 5-17 is considered a good thing, so imaging going two two Bowl games in 3 years here.

I have no idea what CPR is thinking, but I just hope, aftter the Chizik experience that he has enough respect for the team and this school to stick it out for at least a few more years. If he leaves right now, put a fork in it baby our football program is done. I'm just not sure how many more miracles JP can pull out of the coaching ranks. I liked the Rhoads hire from day one because he was an Iowan. I think he understands the people of Iowa. I understand everyone wants more money, but I hope there is a spot in Rhoads' heart where he realizes what leaving the program now, would do to us. At the same time, I would hope ISU can say, "Let's try to keep him here, not just hope." As others have said, I think the support keeps him here for the time being.

The reason Rhoads is getting the attention from the idiot media for every open job available is because if anyone can win 6 games twice in 3 years at ISU and upset 3 or 4 teams along the way, it is assumed said coach could probably win a conference title and BCS bowl/title just about anywhere else. They don't think he will ever do any better here. They don't follow the program like we do and have no idea that nobody around here is going to be satisfied by going 6-6 every year, especially CPR. He deserves the attention, but this is coming from very outside observers. I don't think he could take the passion and emotion he has at ISU and replicate it elsewhere, for a lot of reasons.

As for Illinois, they need to hire someone similar to CPR but their version of it. Someone that is up and coming, not recycled and has a passion for his job instead of goes through the motions.

I'd be devastated if CPR left, however I'll wait for it to actually happen before I go there.

Trust me when I say that in almost every open BCS position, particularly the "average" ones, Pauls Rhoads will be thought about.
