Don't freak out (Rhoads job question).

I would worry if the year was 2014 and the calls were coming from schools like Florida, Oklahoma, or Michigan.

But it's 2011. And Illinois? Sorry, ain't happening.

He's popular and it's another Midwest job. They connected the closest dots possible.

I fully expect we'll be hearing something very soon about an extension with a large increase. I wouldn't be surprised if it was already done and they are just keeping it under wraps so they can announce it and get everyone pumped before the bowl game.

I wouldn't sell Illinois short. They haven't done much lately, but they have been to 2 BCS games since the BCS started. With the amount of talent in that state, I can see them being a program like Wisconsin where they are consistenly winning around 9 games a year. That being said, coach Rhoads will not leave ISU for Illinois in my opinion

DON'T PANIC

... and always know where one's towel is.

Illinois would offer more money and has decent talent, but it would still be another rebuilding job to get them to that next level consistently. I don't think the Illinois AD is as supportive of the football program as ISU so CPR would not end up in a better position, despite a raise.

I think CPR would be more likely to leave for a better program that is more of a safe bet to be a winner, not a middle of the pack at best B1G team.

Radio idiots are going to throw out his name because it has been somewhat hot for every job that comes up from now until the extension at ISU is signed.

The reality is that money talks. While I fully expect CPR to stay here for many years, there are no guarantees. After Cael left, I'll never be surprised by a coaching change again.

If CPR was looking to leave, I would guess he would wait for a better opportunity than Illinois.

Huge difference between Rhoads and Cael. Rhodes was born and raised here, and has family here. Cael just went to college here.

I really don't think it's fair to compare CPR to Chizik and Cael. I think his situation would be more comparable to Fennelly or Hoiberg. Chizik had 0 connection to Iowa and Sanderson only played a sport here.

He'll get mentioned for a lot of openings. He's a hot coach racking up some nice wins. That's all the analysts and writers look at when they make these lists.

The problem is, No one in the media respects ISU or Rhoads love of being the head coach of ISU so they always think he is looking for greener pastures but I think unless there is a really nice job he hasn't disclosed to anyone that he is really interested in, but Illinois rumor is a joke. OSU would have warranted a real consideration but that's as far as I would go.

I'm insulted that people would even think CPR would leave ISU for Illinois. The only way he would leave us for a program like that is if we decide to try to keep him on the cheap. That, or a much bigger name comes calling.

I'd like to ask the idiots who throw Rhoads' name out for every job opening: why would a guy who is about to go to his 2nd bowl game in 3 years, knocked off the #2 team in the nation and is playing one of the toughest schedules would leave that situation to try and do it all over again at some other school that probably isn't as committed to football as ISU is at this point (Illinois couldn't care less about football). It's one thing to mention his name with openings that are a step up, or openings that aren't a complete mess, but throwing his name out for every piddly job opening is just stupid. Most of the Illinois media is a bunch of arrogant ****** who are oblivious to sports outside of Chicago and the big 10+1+1 anyway, but it's still annoying.
I'd like to ask the same thing, but I'd tone it down a bit so it does not come off as mean and condescending.

People who thinks Rhoads would leave for a job like Illinois are as clueless as the people who think he wouldn't leave for a job like USC or Florida.

I've always considered Illinois a sleeping giant. Somebody is going to win big there someday IMO. Zook brought the talent in there but he can't coach. That's why I hope we don't play them in a bowl. They probably have more talent than us. Would much rather play a hapless team like Purdue.

I hope we take care of Rhoads and we do it soon.

Someone at work told me that this morning the heard some radio heads were talking about Rhoads to Illinois. Don't know if they were just talking or had some sort of actual info. Was just wondering if anyone heard this or has any info?
Probably just wishful thinking by sleazy Hawkeye fans
