Anybody else seeing this big issue between directv and Viacom? I can't link as I'm on mobile. But due to some price hikes directv may take comedy central, spike, and 24 other channels off the air. By tonight..

Anyone know what's going on or if they're going to settle this thing?

I'm pretty much okay with losing those channels, especially in the summer.

Just did a little screen print.

Directv is scrolling a line along the bottom. Viacom is running two lines above the directv one. Then Viacom is running ads like the one in the picture. Pretty obnoxious.

Kind of interesting to see the company's go back and forth. Viacom will come on with an ad and directv will have one at the next break. Can't really tell who's right and who's wrong. They're just pointing fingers

Kinda upset about it but feel that sometimes these things occur when one wants more money. The only show I like to watch out of all those channels is Fantasy Factory. Love what Rob Dyrdek does and would love to live his lifestyle.

I just hope that if they drop twenty some odd channels that that I pay less...probably not but I feel that would be fair.

My kids are upset to be possibly losing Nick but it's summer and they should be outside playing anyway! Or at least that's what I told them.

I think Directv should give Viacom the increase, but put them on their own tier, let those that want their stations pay the extra and see how Viacom enjoys the drop in revenues.

DirecTV's Version

Was scrolling through the channels since I've lost interest in the All-Star game.

DirecTV's CEO was saying that viacom wants to increase the rates it charges DirecTV by 30% and is only willing to negotiate the bundle of 17 viacom channels as a whole.

Threre's not a channel among the 17, I really care about. It could create a crisis for some as Nickelodian channels are part of viacom- could be some screaming kids if they can't watch their cartoons.

I really wished that cable and dish were required to offer ala carte pricing. I get 250 channels and I watch less than 10. Crap half the channels on DirecTV are infomercials. IMO if people had to pay for channels- half the stations would go away as the only reason they are on is because they are part of a corporate package of stations.

Considering that the Viacom networks (CMT, TV Land, VH-1 Classic, etc.) are shells of what they once were, as a DirecTV subscsriber, losing these channels is no big loss for me.

comedy central is a big loss for me. Tosh.O, Workaholics, colbert, the daily show.

C.C. is one of about 6 channels i actually watched out of my 600 channels available to me. maybe they will cut my bill by 16% since they took away 1/6th of my channels :spinny:

Are they still on? If you go to the website that the CEO suggests, it asks you to call and ask for what you can do, but on the other side says don't worry, 99% of the time these issues are resolved.

G4.

I side with DTV on this one. Viacom is asking for a Billion more in fees from DTV, which said no.

Blah blah blah...this **** happens almost twice a year between Direct TV and various companies. Both will start running ads about how they are the victims and they are fighting for their viewers/customers. Both will do everything they can to make the other look like the villain.

There will be many deadlines to get this deal done, and each time the deadline is about to expire, there will be an extension to get it done. Eventually, after many deadlines and many extensions of those deadlines, the deal will get done, and it wont effect any of the customers.
