Directv Deal

How do you get 5 free months of Sunday Ticket ? This is a 5 payments of $59.99 (or something like it) product so it is free ?

Do you still have to pay extra for the SuperFan enhancement ?

For some reason, they are also giving me Showtime free for 3 months.

Ill have to look into your deal...

It's screwy the way they "bill" you for this deal. Apparently, you will see a $59.99/mo. charge on your bill as if you have purchased Sunday Ticket. But your overall bill will stay the same, as they lower your base package price.

After I hung up, I got to thinking I heard something wrong, and thought I was swindled, so I called back and confirmed that I will have absolutely no additional charges. That's where I learned that I will have the DVR fee waived for 5 months, since it's part of the premium package, so my bill will actually be lowered for all of this. It seemed too good to be true, so I double-checked.

I'm not sure about the SuperFan thing. It wasn't mentioned at all, so I assume you would still have to purchase that.

We almost never watch movies off the OnDemand. But often will pull up the special programming. Do they have that for the most part? I can't believe HBO wouldn't have their own specials (Real Sports and such) out there?

It depends what special programing you're talking about. I can tell you that it's nothing like mediacom's ondemand. That is the only thing that I prefer on Mediacom. The picture, remote recording, the channels, the price, etc are all better on Directv.

HBO has decided to not have anything ondemand for Directv. I don't know why considering that they are there biggest customer. Not having HBO/Starz is probably the biggest set back.

That one's different, though, because you have to pay for Sunday Ticket to get the Premium package...I think.

That's what it looks like to me. Are you sure you got NFL Sunday Ticket for free? You're getting the entire season, PLUS premiums AND the sports package for absolutely nothing??? If so, I'm blown away by this and can only hope they'll give me the same deal!

Essentially that is what you are doing, they are charging you this and taking off your original package. At least that is the way I understood your deal, sounds like they just offered you the deal as if you were a new customer. Still the same dollar amounts just different accounting on their end, same end state.

But Sunday Ticket is $59.99 a month. A DVR fee is like $5.

I'm sure. After I hung up on the original call, I got to thinking that was too good to be true, so I called back and a second rep told me the same thing, and I had her talk to me like I was a three-year old so I could understand it.

The Sports Pack is part of the Premium package, so I get that, too.

Normally, I don't ever accept anything that telemarketers offer, but this one was too good to pass up.

Now, if I get my bill, and it's different than what two separate reps said, I'm going to be UPSET!

I just answered a call from Directv, thinking it was a call about a billing question I had...normally I wouldn't answer a telemarketing call. I'm glad I did, because they offered a killer deal that I actually took:

-5 free months of their premium package
-5 free months of Sunday Ticket

This will actually reduce my current bill by $6, since with the premium package, they waive the DVR fee.

I just have to remember to call and cancel in December, and I've set up a reminder in Google Calendar to do just that.

Thought some of you may want this, and now you can call and say that you want what I got! (I'm not sure why I was offered it, but it may be that I've been with them for a while.)

It reads to me that you are still paying the same bill you pay every month minus $6, so you will be getting the channels you had plus the ones included in the premium package along with Sunday Ticket. Was your current monthly bill around $65?

You've got it exactly right.

The one in the email you posted looked like you had to pay the $60/mo. for Sunday Ticket, and that allowed you to get the Premium package for 5 mos. free.

I've had nothing but good luck with Directv. I called last month with reception problems. The csr told me she would send a repairman out, but the first opening she had was in a week. She apoligized and then waived the service call bill since it would take so long. I could still get a few channels, so it was not that big of a deal, and football season had not started yet. He moved my dish because a tree had grown in the reception area of the dish. He arrived ahead of time, was pleasant and moved my dish to the roof. Not often do things like that fall into place for me.

Update: I found a thread on SlickDeals about this offer that may have some information in it that is of interest. It sounds like some people have haggled to get them to include Superfan free in the deal, too.

I hate the way these cable companies do business. Why not just offer this plan to everyone? Why do I get a different answer depending on the rep that I talk to? Why do i have to jump through hoops for something they are offering other customers? I went to slickdeals and the ones that are getting the deal are the ones that are most persistent.

I am currently with Dish Network. I have been extremely happy with Dish and their service except for one thing. I never get the Iowa State Football games.

I have talked to people who have Direct TV and it seems like they get all of the games that are televised (I'm sure it depends on the package you have).

My contract should expire this fall. Is it easy to switch to Direct TV or is it a big process?

It's very easy to sign up for Directv if you're a new customer but you need to get EVERYTHING when sign up for the first time. If you decide later that you want something you usually have to kiss their butt and then they'll still charge you a lot. This means get an HD DVR for every room where you'll think you'll watch tv. They'll give them to you free now but they'll cost you $200+/piece later.

Also, when you have the install done make sure you get the person who installed it phone number. Make sure everything works before he leaves. Get the installer to run two cables to every room where you'll ever watch tv.

Also, you may want to consider starting out with a low package at first. They will always allow you to change your package up and spend more.

BTW anybody considering switching to DirectTV should contact somebody else on this board or a friend that has DirectTV. They have a 100 dollars off your bills each for a referral bonus...

And that person should be.........ME!

If they are only offering this through telemarketing, there's little chance that I will catch the call unless they are identified on caller ID. I'm certainly not talking to a bunch of random nimrods in hopes of answering the right call.

Why this part? I'm thinking of switching from Dish to DTV also.

I hate the way they give all the deals to new coustomers, and if you are a current coustomer you have to fight with them to get a good dea.

Because Directv DVR's require 2 connections since they are dual tuner.

Keep in mind that the installer is probably going to try and do the least amount of work possible.

Bummer - but good to know. Thx.

We only have 1 DVR right now and she watches alot of her tv on the tube without it. So I think I'll solve 80% of the problem if I get 2 DVRs. But she also likes going back and watching old, old episodes of shows. Right now she's getting caught up on the first few seasons of Dexter on Showtime. DVR doesn't do much good for that.

The other issue I have is that we have Mediacom internet and I'm not overly excited about dropping that and moving to DSL. I think the DSL will work fine, and I'll get a bit of break bundling it with phone at home. Just not sure about the hassle since all my online accounts point at my mchsi.com email accounts.

You won't lose your mchsi.com email account when you cancel unless I was the exception.
