I just answered a call from Directv, thinking it was a call about a billing question I had...normally I wouldn't answer a telemarketing call. I'm glad I did, because they offered a killer deal that I actually took:

-5 free months of their premium package
-5 free months of Sunday Ticket

This will actually reduce my current bill by $6, since with the premium package, they waive the DVR fee.

I just have to remember to call and cancel in December, and I've set up a reminder in Google Calendar to do just that.

Thought some of you may want this, and now you can call and say that you want what I got! (I'm not sure why I was offered it, but it may be that I've been with them for a while.)

Awesome - thanks.

What do mean by cancelling? Just the premium subscription?

Can anyone speak to the quality of the OnDemand service? My wife is really a stickler for that and loves that feature on MediaCom.

Just cancelling the Sunday Ticket and premium package before the price reverts to its regular price.

The OnDemand stinks as far as I'm concerned. I don't think the selection is very good, and the ethernet connection completely slowed down my DVR. I don't have the optimum setup, though...it's on my wireless network at 1.5 mbps. Maybe it's better with a better connection.

Bummer - but good to know. Thx.

We only have 1 DVR right now and she watches alot of her tv on the tube without it. So I think I'll solve 80% of the problem if I get 2 DVRs. But she also likes going back and watching old, old episodes of shows. Right now she's getting caught up on the first few seasons of Dexter on Showtime. DVR doesn't do much good for that.

The other issue I have is that we have Mediacom internet and I'm not overly excited about dropping that and moving to DSL. I think the DSL will work fine, and I'll get a bit of break bundling it with phone at home. Just not sure about the hassle since all my online accounts point at my mchsi.com email accounts.

Maybe someone's had a better experience with Directv On Demand than I have, but I can't even use it anymore.

OnDemand works fine for me(DSL using homeplug) but the content is very limited. I rarely use it. Also, HBO doesn't have any content. On the plus side the HD DVR is pretty good and I've never came close to filling it up.

We almost never watch movies off the OnDemand. But often will pull up the special programming. Do they have that for the most part? I can't believe HBO wouldn't have their own specials (Real Sports and such) out there?

I'm doing this for sure next week!

So you are an existing customer and they called you and offered you that package or what?

Yep. They almost never have deals for existing customers and this call was certainly out of the blue.

They even cited the fact that one reason they are offering this is because so many people have complained that there are never deals for existing customers.

Like I said, I'm not sure this is available to everyone, but it's worth a shot to call them and try.

Well jeez i am ganna get on that.

Another great part of this deal is that it includes the Sports Pack, which I always order during FB season to see the Clones on the FSN channels and that other obscure channel we were on last year (the name of it has slipped my mind).

As I said, it's a great deal if you remember to cancel the upgrade. The premium package goes up to $109 after the free 5 months.

I may try to get it on friday. I will let you know how it goes. Free sports package? that would be nice since I need to order it for Football season anyway.

How do you get 5 free months of Sunday Ticket ? This is a 5 payments of $59.99 (or something like it) product so it is free ?

Do you still have to pay extra for the SuperFan enhancement ?

For some reason, they are also giving me Showtime free for 3 months.

Ill have to look into your deal...

It's not just for existing customers. I was at Big Dog Satellite in Cedar Rapids yesterday, signing up for service (I went with Dish btw) and they offered me this package.
