Did Steele win his job back?

So many things we accomplished today SHOULD have been accomplished due to the competition. But, Jantz was throwing good balls all night, very catchable. That is a good measuring stick regardless of competition and he did a great job there. Barnett has at least 8 completely uncatchable balls every game.

Also, having a run game and all day to throw helps a bunch. Not having any of these things in the Tech game was a huge reason he looked so bad.

i look forward to seeing art briles and baylor added to your avatar

Honestly... I'm tired of this quarterback controversy... how much confidence can a guy have knowing that if he messes up, he's getting pulled. And how much of a rhythm can he get in after throwing a touchdown pass we try out another quarterback. It's not like we're mixing it up with an option and pocket passer. As my wife would say... "this just isn't healthy, Johnny... please stop...." It truly messes with your head. Pick one, play him. Steele was 3-1 as a starter with a 65% completion percentage before getting pulled. Yes the offense was stagnant, I get it. But what changed after we switched qbs? Barnett has lead us to some quality wins, but can't even complete 50% of his passes and not near as athletic as Jantz. And for those callling for Richardson... c'mon... seriously? Not yet.. please. Point being... pick one and stick with him...

If we get protection, we an win some games. If we don't, it doesn't matter which guy you put in imho unless you get a couple lucky hits and some key turnovers by the D.

I don't understand what some fans want. SJ played great tonight, yes bu is not good on defense, but the guy threw a lot of very good pass, passes that would have been good against osu last week. The int just looked like he took a little too much off the pass because the wr was so open, after all the drops tonight it makes sense that he didn't want to drill it in there. Two feet higher and sj would hold the isu record for tds in a game.

Also had about 8 drops. The pass was horrilbe that was picked. The fumble I am not down on him too much, was trying for the first down. He can clearly make plays Barnett can not. And really, 2 turnovers in 100 plays isn't the end of the world.

You know, when you put it in that perspective, I agree. Still leery but that sort of play to turnover ratio isn't bad.

I think the people on CF should be thanked for fanning the qb and Jake Knott controversy. We even fooled ourselves. Certainly Vegas and baylor were not sure.

Steele has shown enough to beat teams with bad Ds. Good enough for this team.

The next two games will have more D than Baylor had to mess with Steele or whomever CPR throws out there. Both are fairly good offensive teams. It's time for Steele Jantz and Knott and Klein and the rest of the team to do what hasn't happened in Ames since they were playing ball at Clyde Williams Field: beat Oklahoma. We haven't beat them in Ames since 1960 according to the radio show. 1960..... Last time we beat them at all was 1990, 22 years and a few coaches ago. It's time to go for the summit of that mountain. Go State!

Rhoads has exorcised nearly all our demons. This has to be one of the biggest if not the biggest out there still.

In response, yes Jantz did. As bad as Baylor's defense is, there is not much to discredit in his performance.

Very good performance by Steele. Only a few WTF passes, which is not abnormal for 90% of QBs. If his WRs have less drops and he steps into the throw on the INT (in the face of a little pressure) he has maybe the best passing night ever by an ISU QB.

I would guess Jantz starts next week as you hope he has actually progressed. Doubtful he has, and I bet we see some JB. Steele can be pretty good when the other team is not talented enough to make him move in the pocket. OU will get close to him, so I suspect the happy feet will be back and the passing fundamentals will escape. Plus he will still be a bit illiterate at the zone read. I am not confident we score more than 17 next week.

I am more optimistic that the game plan has improved to help SJ. The offense looks less like Mess attempting to call someone else's offense and clearly the staff has made tangible modifications to fit the offense to the QB.

Jantz was actually making good decisions in the zone read tonight, as indicated by our rushing totals. But against Baylor it may not be saying a whole lot. There were many times when we got big plays on the handoff where a big play could have been made with the keeper as well.

Jantz has always had the physical skills to compete against anyone. He must control his mistakes to be a good Big 12 QB.
