Now before you all jump down my throat about just "testing the waters" this sounds like he is peacing out for real.

West Virginia's Devin Williams will declare for the 2016 NBA Draft, per release. No official word yet on if he will hire an agent.

West Virginia’s Devin Williams will declare for the NBA Draft, per the school. Sure sounds like he is gone — and not just testing waters.

probably not drafted, but will make a roster. He's tough and has a decent jump shot. Put him in the Taj Gibson mold.

He has the body for it and has had a nice improvement in his skill set over his years in college. He probably has a decent shot to make it, IMO.

Good for us, good for him.

This kid made huge strides the last few years, his big 12 tourney game against KU was the most I've seen KU's big men get dominated in a long time. I think he still has an upside.

Good player, but I just don't see him making an NBA roster when everything is all said and done. Could easily make a good career for himself overseas though for sure.

We'll see. If he doesn't hire an agent he could have his mind changed after his combine evaluation. I think that will be the biggest change in this whole process. I think some guys who think they are going based on those around them telling them they are ready will have their mind changed when they get their game picked apart in the combine and told they have no shot at the first round.

"West Virginia's Devin Williams has not signed with agent but plans to do so, sources told @CBSSports." Jon Rothstein on Twitter

One of those guys that feels like he's been at WVU way longer than he actually has.

This is great for players but I wonder if the NBA really wants to evaluate dozens and dozens of players who are not even close to being qualifies. I'm not referring to Williams but just wondering about the process in general.

Prohm was on AM 1600 here in CR yesterday and brought up a good point. From a coaches perspective, it can really screw with recruiting as you do not know if a player is leaving until late in the recruiting season. A highly ranked recruit may be interested if he thinks there are lots of minutes available. Those minutes may disappear if the person he is replacing does not make the draft and decides to come back.

Gotta be like a coming to light feeling, realizing the style of basketball your coach forces you to play will never get you anywhere.

While true it can potentially help a coach too. For example if Monte hears from NBA people that he needs to work on this and that, it will resonate with him more and hopefully make him a better player for Prohm. If I was a coach I would look at it as a way for my players to get independent valuations on their strengths and weaknesses.

I think he is gone gone. I heard some WVU fans talk about how if he came back they would be over the scholarship limit. I know no one likes scholly talk, but it sounds like they recruited on the expectation he leaves.

I think he may have a leg up on other kids if he does hire an agent. When all of the other fringe guys are working on their own, a guy with an agent is a nice advantage to have.
