Destroying the victim begins....

The pattern continues. Parrish continues to use what worked in the past, Blame the victim. I find this type of law sickening. To say that he is a "very good lawyer" gives the law a bad name. A very good lawyer uses the LAW not dirt to free his client. I raised a question about Parrish and Pierce and I raise it again, who is paying the legal fees? If it is the university or a donor then it makes things even worse than they already are.

What do you mean by press release? It seems he filed a motion in court and the reporter covering the story wrote about it. Isn't that what we were asking of the reporters?

Come on CA, don't you find it interesting the motion was filed today and on the site today? Of course they were either alerted or a release was sent out. The Register has been days slow on previous reports. Maybe they had someone sitting waiting on the courthouse steps, got a copy of the request, read it, wrote and filed a story the same morning. But,I doubt they have the staff for that.

All he is doing is legal harassment and making sure it goes public so the victim drops her charges. Seeing some of the scum that Parisch represents, I am certain of that.

So you are assuming that they were alerted by the attorney. Maybe they were, but is it not just as plausible that the reporter, especially the ICPC reporter, would have a contact in the courthouse (if that is where the motion is filed)? And if that is the case, that the contact sent word to the reporter that a motion was filed. The reporter could then get a copy of the motion and write a story on it. Doesn't seem too far fetched to me.

EDIT: Please note that I agree that his asking for this information will be an attempt to smear the victim and create some doubt in the mind of a jury. I just think you were jumping to conclusions on how the story surfaced.

WHOA! Stevens really was a piece of garbage at UW... I always heard that, but never heard the reason why... just ridiciulous how these guys get away with some of this. How can lawyer actually defefend these guys and be able to sleep at night?

On their tempurpedic mattress, in the professionally decorated master suite of their multi-million dollar homes....

I know how this game is played. Tactic is to smear the assault victim. They would not take a chance this did not get in the paper. You can take it from there.

I don't know about you guys, but I found this line to be the most disturbing:

Parrish asks the state to produce all of the alleged victim's sent or received telephone and text messages from Oct. 14 until Jan. 12.

The prescription drug request is shady enough but could provide a valid strategy to possibly argue she is an abuser. It still makes the rape wrong but it would bring her character in to doubt as others have stated.

I am not saying I agree with the strategy, as a matter of fact I strongly disagree with it, but that seems to be the way the lawyer is going. Now the text messages...that just seems to be a huge invasion of privacy. That just seems like a reach to throw everything on the wall and see what sticks.

Right or wrong, this is what being a good attorney is all about. Anything to plant a seed of doubt is worth pursuing. Text records could, I repeat could, reveal something that helps the defense. It'll be interesting to see if they're able to obtain them.

Well, now that Kirkie baby had his boys destroy most of the physical evidence, I think this girl gets hosed.

And Kirk will have his press conference to say "oh that poor, misguided thing" and crow about how he is vindicated all along.

It's enough to want to make me puke.

Piece of crap scum.

Unless someone asks the reporters (note the plural ... it was reported at both the ICPC and DMR sites), we won't know for sure. I'm think both explanations are plausible. I do find it interesting, though, that if he "released" the information to the papers, that the CRG doesn't have anything on the story (yet). Either they aren't reporting it or he didn't "release" the information to them.

What I'm really curious about is how Parrish plans to deal with the OTHER witnesses to this incident. You know, the fellow football player who left the scene before the rape happened because he "felt wrong" about the whole thing? Or the other player who told Satterfield & Everson "I'm not going to lie to the cops for you." and repeated that conversation for the ICPD.

You KNOW that he'll smear their character by letting the jury know that they're members of a well-known criminal conspiracy, right? He'll show their photos from the Iowa Football Media Guide, and the jury won't believe a word they say.

I've watched the Gazette, they are trying hard to completely ignore this story. It's strange, but I'm sure they can justify in their own minds.

Have the Iowa City Police or whoever is prosecuting the legal case done the same to the alleged perps and went after Meds and text messages ?

I'm sure they have medical records to look through..

What about facebook photos (or is that only certain Hawks) ?

What about records of 'punishments' Doled out by the U of coverup ?

Have we gotten all their locker room stories on the record ?

Al's tactics worked on the Punk's(Pierce) first victim........but not on number two. If I am not mistaken, when the victim #2 took the stand before the Punk was sentenced and gave everyone what for, didn't she call ol Al out? Wasn't there something about him threatening her with not being able to get her degree, or yanking her scholarship.....if she had one? Someone help me here, because as I recall, it made ol Al shrivel up and blow away.

I remember Deace played her speech....unedited on WHO, and everyone and their brother, even the most black and gold said this kind of crap can never happen again. And here we are! Same university, same lawyer, same type of crime! Although this one appears to be much worse! What Deace needs to do, is get that speech from the Punk's second victim and play it AGAIN so as everyone can remember just what a piece of work Al really is!

This football player should see what Parish got pierre. What was it like 2 years in prison? A good lawyer could have got him off.
