Destin McCauley Commits...

I'm not a big wrestling guy, but I thought that Ryak Finch was a blue-chip type of recruit as well. He and Meeks are top line recruits along with McCauley.

Finch, Gadsen, Meeks, and now McCauley are all big time guys. Very excited for the future of this program.

You know, I heard from a reliable source that it was the CF thread that made him commit.

Actually Trent Weatherman, Mike Moreno and Joey Cozart were all ranked in the top 50-60 recruits in the nation, Gadsen was actually somewhere around 60-80 out of high school...Also Boaz Beard was decently ranked...Here is a list of recruits and their overall ranks from the past couple of years.

Ryak Finch #16
Joey Cozart #29
Mike Moreno #60
Kyven Gadsen #65
Luke Goetl #98
Mike England #123
Tanner Weatherman #97
Destin McCauley #2
John Meeks #16
Gabe Moreno #63
Jesse Doyle #123
Kyle Larson #139

On a side note Chris Spangler, Boaz Beard and Trent Weatherman were all i would say ranked in the top 50-60 recruits in their respective classes...

Woohoo!

ISU wrestling: Former No. 1 prospect picks Cyclones | The Des Moines Register | DesMoinesRegister.com

Destin McCauley put off college for a year to chase his goal of someday winning Olympic gold.

He’s headed to Iowa State for the same reason.

The five-time Minnesota state high school champion, once considered the nation’s No. 1 overall wrestler in the 2011 class, verbally committed Wednesday night to Iowa State coach Kevin Jackson.

“I have my college goals,â€￾ McCauley said. “I want to be a multiple-time national champ in college, but that’s another side goal. My ultimate goal is to be an Olympic champion. Kevin Jackson knows his things about freestyle and he’s going to put me on the right track to reach my goals.â€￾ . . . .

Welcome aboard!

Now lets get Tyler to committ. We are getting closer to contending for a national title in Des Moines next year.

2012 -2013 - Nationals in Des Moines
Potential lineup
125 - Finch - RS soph
133 - Meeks - (Fresh) or Cash (RS Soph) or Jones (RS Soph)
141 - Goettl - RS Soph or Mayfield RS Senior
149 - McCauley - Freshman
157 - Cozart (RS Soph) or Weatherman (RS Junior)
165 - Moreno - RS Soph
174 - Spangler - RS Senior
184 - Beard - RS Junior
197 - Gadsen - RS Soph
Hwt - Gibson - RS Senior

Throw in Caldwell at 165/174 and maybe move Moreno back to 157 for another year. That's a contender.

GET YOUR MEMBERSHIP TO CWC NOW. Tickets to nationals will be tough to get next year in Des Moines.

What a huge get for KJ and Co! Great job! This is huge news for the program.

We've had some really good wrestlers commit to the program under KJ, but they were top 3-5 at their own weight types of kids. That's not to sell them short as I feel they will be excellent wrestlers for us. That said, McCauley is a true blue chipper (which I define as top 5-10 overall). He's the best commitment the program has had since Varner or Reader.

Hopefully this will buy KJ some more time from the haters. Cael absolutely gutted this program and KJ deserves the time necessary to get us back on track. I expect us to be top 5 in Des Moines in '13 and contending for championships after that. Let's go ahead and reel in Caldwell and really finish off this class with a bang!

Totally agree with cael destroying our program. Cael took his recruits and his bad mouthing hurt KJ momenterally for his recruiting. We were jerkins first choice but cael wouldn't let him come to us. Good for asu I guess.

KJ is doing it the right way though. He could have thrown the freshmen to the wolves, but he redshirted them, like he should, and is giving them time to develop. I have seen the wrestlers develop and get more aggressive, which is what I like, under his guidance. The room is full again, first priority, and now he is improving the talent level with each class. Great job KJ.

WOW! That is just awesome! That right there made my day; great way to start off the morning. If you read this Destin, thank you. Happy to have you in the cyclone nation. You'll wear the cardinal and gold well.

High fives to KJ and crew. You can see the momentum turning for the wrestling program, which is great to see given our history and tradition. It's the way it should be. What an exciting time for Cyclone Athletics....

I don't think he's the best recruit in the last 3 years. Remember, this is college not freestyle. He has to wrestle seven minutes.:skeptical:

He has the most prestigious awards, probably followed by Finch then Meeks and Gadsen.

Gabe Moreno has probably wrestled more national freestyle events than any.

We will know more in 4 to 5 years, but I'm excited to have Destin on board.
