I was planning on spending a "special" night in Des Moines with the lady in the next month. I was looking for suggestions on what would be the a good, classy hotel to stay at.

Thanks for the input.

Take her to Embassy Suites for free happy hour with stale beer and crappy drinks, then free breakfast in the morning. Just kidding also!

Seriously, I'm sure there are some nice bed @ breakfast places around DSM and several great restuarants. You should let us know what your budget is going to be. Also what her preferances are...like beer, wine, no alcohol and food....steak, fish, etc.

I just actually did that last weekend. I did a king whirlpool suite at the Hampton Inn in Jordan Creek. It was fantastic, very comfortable bed. I love Hampton Inns. I booked online and with my triple AAA discount and taxes added in, it costed about $150. I really liked the hotel, one of the best I've ever stayed at.

Seriously, I would recommend The Butler House on Grand if you are into B&Bs...I personally know the owners and they are great people...both ISU alums as well! I believe they were selected as one of the top ten "most romantic inns" in the US recently.

i'll second that!!! was there about a year ago, and lets just say the gf LOVED it!!! was very nice, and the owners are really great people! of course, i was kinda partial since the whole family had on ISU gear! overall it was a fantastic weekend

Suites of 800 - we stayed there for our wedding. Pricey, but very nice.

Hotel Ft Des Moines... Um, yeah....

"Special night" I remember those. After 5 years and full time work, part time school, we don't get very many of those anymore.

Please let us know where you stay! I would love to have some ideas for the future!

Embassy Suites are a treat for us. We used to stay there when ISU had the Mediacom Capital Classic.

Butler house on Grand is great. I would not consider myself a B&B type of guy but I thought it was very private and there were awesome rooms to stay in. Ours had a jacuzzi in the room and breakfast was out of this world. Good place to eat if you stay there is Centro just down the street.

Hotel Fort Des Moines or the Suites of 800 Locust.

If you stay at the Suites you also obtain nightly membership to the Embassy Club or the Des Moines Club if you want to dine as well.

Embassy Club= Restruant 41st floor Principal Building-top floor
Des Moines Club= Restruant 34th floor Ruan Building-top floor

So if you really want to make it "special" drop a few extra and stay there and dine there as well. The food is good but you are really paying for the exclusiveness and the view.

My wife and I really liked the Hotel Fort Des Moines. Odd name, since it's nowhere near Fort Des Moines, but I digress...

We really liked the rooftop indoor pool and the Racoon River Brewing Company was in like it's 2nd iteration, and the food was very nice.
