I heard that Deionte Gaines said that he was planning on signing with Iowa State but the reason that he has not is because Messingham told him that we have better recruits. I don't know about you guys, but I am in love with this kid for how he plays. He is taking a trip to CSU today. He is listed as a four star on ESPN. I also think he would be a HUGE get for the class. What do you think?

I have been watching this kid for 3 years, and I am a HUGE Gaines fan. I'm not sure who the "better" kids are. Depending on the recruiting source you use, he would be the 2nd or 3rd highest rated recruit we picked up this year.

I think what Messingham probably told him (and this is just a guess on my part) is that he is not at a "position of need". He plays RB, in the slot, and is a fantastic return guy, but we already have a lot of young guys in those positions. We are really thin on defense and the coaches seem to be concentrating their efforts on that side of the ball.

This is a real problem with not being able to bring guys up for official visits early. I firmly believe he would have committed to ISU last summer if he could have visited. If he wants to commit now, it may be too late - all the spots are filled. Even at that, the 247 crystal ball predictions still have him 100% ISU.
 
If we are truly looking for players on D (and Trey Scott says we are still looking for a corner), I really like Deionte's teammate, Davin Pierce. He is a 6'2" physical corner with a soft verbal to Cincinnati. I would love to see us pull both these guys.

Deionte looks super versatile. You'd have to think we would take this guy. I would like to see him in the slot with our size and speed on the outside (Bundrage, Montgomery, Lazard) he could exploit the middle of the field.

I'm guessing that would be Wesley and Salters.
 
Mister will definitely be playing running back. I really find it hard to see wesley and Salters winning out a spot against him. I am not too im pressed with Salters and I think Wesley will be mediocre at best. This is a business and Gaines is proven to show up big against big opponents. He goes to Dr. Phillips, where Alton Meeks as his QB. They develop top tier talent and play the best teams in florida and the rest of the country.

Like you said, Dr. Phillips is a football factory and has alums playing at the top programs in the country. Gaines obviously has connections at ISU with Meeks and a long list of other Orlando area kids on the roster. DP had so many weapons that he only had ~8 touches per game his senior year, which I think makes his film even more impressive. Here are his senior year stats: 55 rushes for 462 yds (8.4 per carry) and 11 TDs, 28 catches for 564 yards (20.1 per catch) and 5 TDs, 14 punt returns for 266 yds (19/return) and 2 TDs.

He averaged over 13 yards every time he touched the ball and scored a TD every 5th touch, playing in the big boy division of Florida football. Not too shabby.

Sorry, I didn't ask who you would "go with". What I said is that we already have two slot receivers committed.

How many do you want in a class? Sometimes, you take the first guys to commit, then move on to other areas of need.

And as far as you guys talking about how Dr. Phillips plays "big boy" football (what in the world is that???), well, what do you think that Harvey Thornton and Dallas Jesuit play?

If you want to quote me, then quote me - don't paraphrase and put it in quotes. I said the "big boy division of Florida football". That would be the 8A classification of FHSAA. I frankly have no idea what division Dallas Jesuit plays in.

If I had wanted to quote you, I would have. You aren't the only person around here who refers to "big boy football".
 
I think we really need his talents now since he can play ways! We need a cb and an electric player! He's a 2 in 1 deal
