Dear ISU AD: Please Stop Changing Hilton

Were you there? I’ve been to many games and not sure I’ve experienced that loud and intensity for a full 40 min especially when we are up 24 pts. It was unreal. My guess on the changes is that they were recommended by legal counsel or risk management. If you refuse to make changes and something happens could be a big lawsuit. Who knows though. I don’t think it really matters if we continue to pack it in the noise and intensity is good as ever. I don’t think people that watched on TV got a full sense of the environment their because ESPN was calling the game remotely.
I was there, then watched it on ESPN "On demand" when I got home. TV did not do it justice, and yes; agree, the PXP, being remote, was a definite contributor.

@Cyclonepride, I can't remember what thread I saw recently that said your first Hilton game was in 1988 vs. Kansas. Was it this thread?

Anyway that was a good BB year! Kansas had Manning IIRC. ISU had Grayer and Rhodes. I couldn't find that game (wish I could) but I did find this. 1988 ISU vs Missou.

Not sure, but what a game to go to, as they won the national championship that year, and our guys stuck it to them. I remember screaming in my buddy's ear, and him screaming back, and neither of us had any idea what we were saying to each other.

I never realized so many people watched the games to see the crowd.

To be honest one of my favorite aspects of college basketball is watching home crowds go bananas vs. a highly ranked team.

That said being there vs. seeing it on TV are going to be different no matter what.

The argument was how far the students are from the baseline.
No, it wasn't. The argument is that they ****** up doing the student section, creating a horrible convention center setup, and is a ****-up and should be corrected.

Your Duke example is egregiously bad. Have you not been to Cameron Indoor?

At KU, it is court all the way form the students to the baseline, filled in with a crowd of people. At Hilton, we now have a parking lot.

It's 5 feet geez. The crowd was as good and loud as it's ever been. If five feet and a fence prevent injuries and allow for safer court storms I would vote yes. Some people just need to understand changes are done for safety not to kill any fan experience. The old bleachers had reached their life expectancy so that's why this was done. The new bleachers just expand 5 feet less, not 15 or 25 feet.
The NBA in the last decade has increased the clear space requirement on the sidelines, but especially the "runoff" area on the ends of the floor particularly on either side of the basket stanchions. I would not be surprised for the next new wood floor in Hilton to have more space on either end in the interest of player safety. That would take up some of the new dead space. The additional space would also be a help for volleyball where a serving player is often almost off the floor and in the laps of the first row of fans.
Our basketball fanbase/home court is one of our biggest selling points to recruits. Also networks like carrying games with that atmosphere, it’s why people love college sports.

But for some reason we decided to make the upper deck darker than a movie theatre removing half the crowd trying to be like staples center. Then on top of that you take the most rowdy fans move them 10 yards back off the tv/court and leave a giant empty concrete void in its place. Makes no sense.
Good debate. Here is a clip of the last minutes of the 1995 game vs. KU (Floyd's first year). Keep watching to the end and you can see the balcony region appears quite a bit darker as well. Like it does now. Maybe it is more a TV thing? But I believe the folks here who are attending games and say it is 'too dark now' in the balconies. They should know.

One poster recently opined that the floor also looks more 'bleached-out' now than in years past. This appears to be more than just a lighting thing (LED's now). Personally I might prefer a 'slightly' darker, more amber court floor. Not a big deal but they will pick what they want here also when the time comes. I don't think us fans have a say in the matter.

Speaking as a fan from afar I'd like the lighting in the balconies to be turned up a tad. It will look better on TV. I think also if there was a way to push the entire new end-bleachers 3-4 more feet closer to courtside, that would be best. I doubt that can be done. We may be stuck with the new change in the bleachers at both ends. Progress? The lighting can be changed.

KU has a student section set up basically the same as Hilton, they just put a few chairs in front of that and their students have a higher vantage point at its lowest point so they can put a few chairs in front of that without impeding view.

So other than the fact there are people sitting much closer to the baseline, and the court continues to the student section, it is the same?

If they needed the space for a bunch of big money seats, or press, or even handicap seating, then do it. This was just a ******* mistake.

Yes the student sections are basically the same. You are getting way too riled up about nothing.

The bleachers probably aren’t changing so you can either get used to it or email Jamie and find out if there is another plan.

Whining about this when ISU is maybe going to be undefeated going into conference play is trash.

Except one was recently redone to look like a convention center, the other makes room for others to be closer to the action. Huge difference

Is it as big of deal as the poor job with the Sports Performance Center? Probably not, but what a needless mistake.

How do you function in life if you compartmentalize so poorly? Pointing out that they messed up when redoing the student section and it looks like **** does not impact the enjoyment of the season at all.

Sure doesn’t seem like it but ok. You really going to die on this hill it seems. Good luck with this. I’m sure whining on this board will solve the problem.

Lol nobody is booing the players they are just suggesting how to make Hilton even better, it looks trashy/unfinished on tv and in person to have bare garage floor, just put some seats down it isn’t hard.
