Dave Barrent

BigM = owned.

How is that again? The guy saw him in person at a camp and gave his opinion. Sorry it isn't all hok warm and fuzzy. Barrent does have a lot of potential as evidenced by his offers, but it sure looks like he has a lot of work to do to reach it. Doesn't really matter, though, since most OLs don't see the field before their RS Soph year anyway.

opinion #1 was just from seeing tape and if you noticed i said in both that he had bad form and he was straight ahed blocking didn't have to reach at all so it boils down to strength he is strong for a high school lineman not for a college 4* though

So you don't think he can have his form corrected when he gets to college? If that is a problem with him it should be easy to correct that don't you think?

Also what are the strength requirements to be a college 4* lineman anyway? You don't think this kid will get stronger in college, especially if he takes a redshirt year?

Excellent point. Hopefully it works out that way with Barrent at Iowa. I know Mike Jones got thrown in the fire as a true frosh at Ohio State and he was far from ready. Lets see how he develops as a freshman at Iowa and make a judgement from there.

Never trust the Zooker. Just ask Mendenhall's brother.

I dont ever trust players family members. They always seem to come out of the woodwork to "tell it how it went down", but they really dont know the whole story.

I haven't read all of the posts about David Barrent but thought I would let you know a little more about him. I coached Conor Boffeli and David Barrent for about 5 years in basketball including AAU. David is a great kid. I saw that one poster said he saw him at the ISU team camp and said he was not very big or was skinny. David is every bit 6-8, 290. He is not skinny! He is solid and I agree with an earlier post he could easily put on another 30 or so pounds. My only thought about someone saying he is skinny is that he doesn't fit the traditional mode of a 290 lineman with a larger midsection. David has a well proportioned body.

It reminds me of a quote from Coach Bowden at Florida State. Someone commented to him about 5 years ago that Florida State should be great every year due to all of the 5 star recruits. Bowden laughed and said out of every 10 - 5 star recruits he lands that only one will be an impact player, 2 or maybe 3 will contribute and the other 7 will play sparingly or not play at all. There is no science to recruiting. It is all based on potential.

David is the type of kid that he will do what he is told and strive to be the best he can be. There is no doubt that he may have gotten beat a few times at the Ames camp but lets face it, his upside is huge. I compare him in basketball to a 7' who gets up and down the court well. It would be tough to pass him up.

hey bigM i play for dowling this year and saw u guys are on the schedule...we havnt played for awhile and i dont kno anything about rooselvelt really except they got some fast kids, how are u guys looking this year

by the way i heard alot of the metro schools all hate dowling and valley quite a bit so hopefully itll be a good fun game, im not sure if they do just rumors

I thought Barrent committed to eiu? Why is this fan club post on CF?

re weR138:
I am not a Hawkeye fan, just posting on Barrent since that was what this 8 page thread was about. I believe the Cyclones have a great chance to land Boffeli though. The reason he wasn't playing during the Ames camp was he hurt his ankle playing baseball.

i mean skinny as in he wasn't exactly a double wide he was like a 1 1/4 if i'm a single wide and i'm not exactly very wide

Didn't say hawkeye fan club...interesting you went there though.

Could you give us a few paragraphs Boffeli...

In other words there's no chance he will fit in with his teammates if he does end up going to Iowa.

C'mon. Iowa has 85 - 100 football players? Clearly, the bulk of them are hard working, great kids. Give it a rest.

I wouldn't doubt that Barrent had a bad camp. In high school, I remember specifically going after all the recruited guys and sometimes making them look bad and sometimes making them look good.

Can we put this thread to a rest? It is seriously a waste of time. So the guy had a few bad days, like that has never happened to anyone and anytime. This is a CYCLONE web site, not a hawkeye chatterbox. He (Barrent) is not a cyclone at this time, probably never will be. So please stop bringing this dumb junk to the front page. :jimlad:

Given all the crap in the news from Iowa City and the fact that the current Iowa coaching staff's future there is in question, what are the chances Barrent reconsiders his committment and takes some visits to other schools -- including ISU -- this fall? I think they might be pretty good. Even so, there's no guarantee we'd land him. If I had to bet on it I would bet he will "get Zooked" just like Nathan Scheelhaase & Jason Ford, but who knows?

Big M, I really enjoy your comments. No reason to get down on you for telling it like you see it! It's great to have your input and I hope others will look at it like the plus it is. Thanks!

Dumb enough to choose Iowa once.... not sure we want him.
