Darks, Reynolds, Johnson

We don't have a single WR on our team that can make the first man miss and get around him. Money has shown flashes of making people miss, but he never gets down field after that. We need someone who can do that... I think all 3 of those guys are capable of that... they just have yet to prove it. Step up.

When I watch our receivers, they remind me a little bit of a basketball player who can dribble like crazy, cross you over, pull it back and then...go no where.

David Newman at Northwestern and Drake comes to mind. He had all the moves in a 5-foot circle, but never actually used any of them to get to the basket.

Probably a poor analogy, but that's the one I've thought of when watching our guys on multiple occasions.

I wasn't able to see this game, but Iowa had two safeties deep over the top all game last week. I'm sure our opponents are watching that tape and doing similar things (I was not able to watch the Kent State game). If we are going to "take what the defense gives us," we'll likely have to throw underneath a lot and let our receivers make YAC. Of course, if we keep getting 100+ yards out of A-Rob, that should help pull safeties up and give us more opportunities to go deep.

This is on the money.

We went downfield vs Iowa quite a bit and it was always into heavy coverage. Hitches and crossing patterns plus delay patterns to backs and TE's would do us wonders. According to the radio, 3 consecutive hitches to Hamilton started the game at Kent State. We can run the ball on Army also. Heck, we can run the ball on anyone. If we eliminate turnovers, we will average 500 ypg.

well from what I found out last night after the game 2 of the 3 were playing injured, one from a previous injury and 1 sustained an injury this week in practic...:(

thanks for the info... we need everyone healthy.

It's only game 3. By mid-season our passing game should start to produce more consistently. If not it will be a long conference schedule.

I hope the passing game hits it's stride in conference play. I agree most of the problems lie with AA look at his completion % way to low for a spread O. His is not very accurate on short timing routes and that is the foundation of the spread passing game. We may end up looking like a west vir. Or mich. Type of spread until we recruit that type of passer

I don't get to see much ISU FB...only saw the Iowa debacle...but clearly a receiver has to have a QB that can get the ball to him and more importantly get it to him in a spot where he can do something with it afterwards. From what I saw it seems we don't have much accuracy at the QB position.

You just said that you don't see too much football. So stop bashing Arnaud. He'll be fine--and was fine last game.

they may be dinged up.... BUT better pass routes will get these three more catches and more yards. I haven't seen a lot to be impressed from their route running this year.... all three games.

A little sensitive aren't we?

I see plenty of FB...and very good FB...just not much ISU FB. If you think that was bashing you are crazy. He should be "fine" against a team like Kent St.

It must be your time of the month.

Their minds are injured too...it's hard for them to run good routes!

Seriously, I'm tired of the excuse machine with the receivers. They may be dinged up, but it's obvious they're healthy enough to play. Nothing has impressed me with this group so far. There have been moments, but they have been rare to this point.

IMO, I'd be totally fine with showing more of a 2 WR (starting Hamilton and Williams) 2 TE (Catlett and Franklin) set until the other guys are "physically" ready to play.

And for you spread lovers (pun not intended), the tight ends could easily line up in the slot.

You can't say that you don't see much ISU football, then make an extremely negative comment about the quarterback. Either you have seen him play a lot, enough to judge, or you haven't--and by your own admission, you haven't. Simple enough.

Good grief--a little juvenile, aren't we?:skeptical:

This. You have to take what the defense gives you on each play. If the safeties are dropping deep then you run the ball. They come up you throw it right over the top.

Hell... look at Texas Tech as a great example. Those guys throw the ball 60 times per game and I would venture to guess that 50 of those 60 passes are less then 5 yards. The qb takes the snap and fires without hesitation. The defense has no time to react and those short passes absolutely kill defenses because they are such high percentage throws. Then you see the defensive backs start creeping up towards the line and BAM they hit them for a deep ball. It is an absolutely brilliant offensive scheme. There is not doubt that Texas Tech is nowhere near as good as they were last year but I think Texas would disagree. They gave the Horns all they wanted because they ran their offense with precision and tried not to take stupid risks.

AA is not precision passer(expecially short quick timing routes), he may and I hope get better as the season goes on, but not yet, until then we should be a spread, run first team. Think Rich Rod. @ Michigan, not Jim Leach @ Tex. Tech.

Go clones

I was right behind the bench at the game, all the receivers were right in front of me all night. I could hear the conversations. I also got to see how there are some injuries you wouldn't notice out on the field but are clear when you're right there just a few feet away. They're out there playing, but you can see how it effects them.
