Darius Stevens

I am not insinuating that Darius is not talented, but I did notice the older players lay off him when he would go in for a shot. They wanted the kid to score in his father's honor.

They may have laid off a bit but you can't fake or teach the general athletic and bball abilities you could see he has.

I would love to get Darius Stevens. He would be a great story, and if he could be a contributor he would be absolutely loved here in Ames. Imagine if he could grow to 6'8" or so and still play on the wing - that would be some great size.

Throw Stevens, Barnes, Dykstra, and a good PG like Elijah Johnson in that class and it could be top 10 easy. Granted, it's a long way away though.

Dude...it was an EXHIBITION GAME FOR CHARITY...everyone was trying to make sure they left with no injuries...old and young alike!!

Actually Mike Born was trying to hard.

I dunno, but Jeremy said he has top 150 potential on the first page.

There isn't a ton about him yet since he's still young and most recruiting news really starts the beginning of the Junior year. From what I've heard, he has potential to be Top 150 caliber but right now it's obviously an early analysis/assessment.

I would have to say ISU is by far the clear leader right now but it all depends on Darius and what he wants to get out of his career. Once he starts to learn his role a little better and gets used to his size, he'll get a lot more attention. I would have to say I think this school year will be a breakout year for him.

:yes4lo:

A closer shot would reveal that Darius has been branded with the Barry Stevens's widows peak. He admitted to being guilty of having it shaved off every week.

Does that surprise you??? The guy played the state championship game with a broken shooting hand.

In fact his senior year, he took an accidental elbow from Mark Baugh (who went up for a rebound, and came down elbow first into Mike's cheek). He went into the locker room, got 8 stitches, after they got the bleeding stopped, and came back in the game.

He played hard all the time. I remember him dropping 26 in back to back games against Okie State and Kansas at Hilton.

After the OSU game, Marc Hanson's (now Keeler's column, except Marc could actually write) column was about seeing Johnny start laughing in the middle of a close second half, and noone could figure out why. Come to find out, Jim Hallihan yelled (Hilton did get loud back then) "I think that Mike Born is taking over this game." in Johnny's ear. Now, he loved Mike Born, but that was probably the only time a comment like that was made about him. Johnny said he had never been caught that off guard on a basketball court in his life.
