Darian Williams is going to kill it

I think Williams was set to be a top Juco u til he got hurt so it's awesome we got him. Can't wait to see him play

Williams is a shooting guard/wing. His main game is out at the three and driving. Just because he is 6"8 does not make him a post.

I remember watching BDJ highlight videos before he played a game and thinking he was going to average 15 pts a game. I think Burton Williams and Cooke will be good additions but I am going to be more careful with my expectations of players next year. You just never know. McKay was just supposed to block shots for all I knew before he played a game and look how he turned out!

Definitely a 3 or 4 with Fred's "no-number" system. Would be a 3 under most but if Diallo and Niang need breaks, he could be our 4.

I think everybody will be a little more cautious thins time after expectations became a weight this year.

Knowing ISU fans, I find this very unlikely. Next year's roster will be Fred's best - whether that's true or not, that will be the narrative. Cyclone fans will accordingly expect the best results. We'll expect to compete for the Big 12 titles (both regular season and tournament) and make an Elite Eight run at the least, because only that would be fitting for Fred's most talented team. So expectations will be high. The players will either have to deal with them or will disappoint some fans, that's just how it is.

After everyone gets over this loss, probably next weekend or so for me, the Hoiball bandwagon will be full again and everyone will be hyping next years roster. And for good reason, it's going to be loaded. And who knows who else will be added because you know something will be up Fred's sleeve.

If he overachieves like McKay, that would be great.

I was wondering this earlier, so perfect time to ask. Is he campus yet? If he's not, why isn't he?

**** like this is why many thought BDJ was the next Kane and Nader would be a starter day 1. I'm guessing Cooke plays decently in the noncon, slumps at the start of conference play causing everyone who thought something like this to go apeshit on him, and then figures it out. Williams probably wont get the minutes people think he should get because he'll be battling with Georges, McKay, Nader, and Diallo(hopefully) for playing time and then we'll get threads asking why Williams isn't starting or why he isn't the first man off the bench. I honestly can't wait to see what the expectations are for Diallo should he come here.

Cookes statline at Oregon State:
2013-14ORST26.32.8-6.1.4591.3-2.8.4561.3-1.8.7372.62.50.10.81.81.68.2

Naders stat line at Northern Illinois:
2012-13NIU25.44.7-13.9.3371.4-4.9.2772.3-3.0.7725.60.90.51.32.83.213.1

Nader was a volume shooter at the mid-major Northern Illinois. Why people thought he was going to come in and light it up was beyond me. Cooke on the other hand shot 45% from 3 in a Power 5 conference. I expect Cooke to fill the 6th man role next year when conference play rolls around. I would not be shocked if Naders role is reduced significantly with Williams coming in and for that to be gone totally if Diallo comes in.

Let the unrealistic expectations begin!
Until we improve our rebounding (especially defensive rebounding) I am not expecting anything more than a 11-7 conference record and getting to the Round of 32. We got killed on the boards during the first half of all 3 of our Big XII Tournament games and UAB, of all teams, outrebounded us 52-37.

Well except they are kind of realistic. People are already picking us as an early final four pick for next year we will likely be top 6 or 7 (better had we won a few) to start The season. I am not a Kool aid drinker but this time the Kool aid is real. We could be very good. Things also may not work out. Get used to it with Hoiberg Their will always be a lot of potential. Unlike 2000. This isnt a once in a generation moment that sloped through our fingers. This is an every year deal with Fred. Get used to it!

I figure we'll all "cool" it after this year.

Two years ago was so fun... we didn't expect much, Kane was an unknown, and they killed it. Maybe the second best ISU team of all time after Fizer/Tinsley.

This year, everybody seemed miserable we weren't in the top five most of the year. It was a great season by so many metrics but ended badly and with bad effort. What a tease. CW and friends (and, hell, Fred, too) were stoking the hype train the whole way, however.

Next year I have to figure we'll be more subdued. This loss sucks. The roster has unknowns, but we're bringing back our new all-C/AA-caliber Kane/Morris and Ejim/Niang with plenty of new, exciting faces that are probably better than our existing rotational players. Fred keeps upgrading. I think everybody will be a little more cautious thins time after expectations became a weight this year. Some of the ******* bandwagon fans will jump off, too, which might make this place a little more peaceful at times.

By the time football is winding down, we'll all be desperate to see 'em play Colorado.
It will get worse. We are "new money". We haven't learned to how the rich/ good act yet.

Again, this is about a single player and not the team. It is unrealistic to think that Darian is going kill it in the Big 12 next year. I hope he does, but the "insiders" on this board told us Nader was the best player on the team last year. Hype went through the roof on Nader. Do you remember the hype on Matt Thomas before he played a game? Four year starter they said....without playing a single minute for ISU.

But we were right about McKay!
