Dan Winters leaving WHO

Local tv news people get paid basically minimum wage (at first) to wake up at 3:00 AM daily and work 60-70 hour weeks. And if you’re a woman you will have Nancy on Facebook talking about your clothing choices nonstop. No thanks

The industry burns people out, especially those who have young families. Some of these people are so committed to the job to the point they will do anything it takes to advance to the bigger markets or jobs even if it means spending most of your time at the station. I have a friend that was a producer at 13 right after college and it burnt her out quickly as she would tell us producer is a fancy title for "tape monkey." She'd come in the early morning hours to queue up tapes to go with the stories and sometimes they would not even hand her what they planned to lead with till 15 minutes before going on air so was a mad dash to get just the right video clip queued up to lead the newscast off with. I can only imagine what some of these national news personalities sacrifice with their personal lives just to be on air on a major news network. For example look how much double duty Savannah Guthrie at NBC pulls sometimes as she will be on the Today show then some nights fill in for Lester Holt on the nightly news or be on a special broadcast for election nights or other thing NBC is covering and you wonder if she is living at the NBC studio those days. Same thing probably happens on a local level too as have seen Amber and Megan pulling long days to cover some time slots then when severe weather hits it usually is all hands on deck too.

The media industry is not for everyone. Just look at how CW had to get away from radio so so he could give time to his family and personal life. He's still in the industry with CF obviously but more on his own terms and not others. Can only imagine how frustrating it would be to be the low person in seniority at a TV station and be asked to cover a shift on beckon call or grab a camera and go out and cover a story even if it wasn't your shift to do so. That would grow weary on me, life is too short to be on the hamster wheel thinking if you keep chasing it will eventually let you off it. I already have an understanding at work that I will not do after hours work if it interferes with my family life. I will volunteer for things after hours if I am free at that time but if I have something going on I will tell them I can't do it and they will not force it on me so for that I am thankful to have that understanding.

Look at what happened to Heidi (8) and Sonya (13). The atations made other excuses, but basically they aged out.
Molly Kooney as well...
Molly was ready to retire. Sonya was horrible. Not sure about Heidi, but she was great. A lot of these people end up quitting due to crappy work life balance.

Wasn't he the one that got in some hot water legally? Or am I remembering the wrong guy?

On another note, I'm not really sold on TNG yet. Can't quite put my finger on why...but his delivery feels off to me.

I worked with Jason Parkin when we were both at ISU. He’s was fun to work with and a great guy.

please do not confuse him for the disgraced former weather caster

That guy just gave the vibes of being a creep didn't he?
Does everyone remember he bought some nice car and tweeted out a picture of it asking what Waukee kid wants to take it to prom? Like WTF.
…..you don’t do that?
