D. McDermott rated a three star by Scout

What Doug lacks in athletic ability, he will make up for in basketball smarts. I think I would compare him more to Paul Shirley. Only time will tell and Paul never contributed much until his Junior year. Like most big men.
DMac isnt as long as Shirley was. not even close..

There was much more to Doug not starting last year at AHS. He didn't start the year starting because he wasn't quite ready. Then, coming off the bench he provided and instant offensive spark, and if it ain't broke, don't fix it. He is not a role player.

I watched Martin Bros play yesterday and Doug arguably is the best big man on that team, I say best player period. I watched 2 MB games and Dykstra is soft. Doug is better now and has waaay more upside than Jordan Dykstra. Not sure how big Jordan is supposed to be, but he may only be 1 inch taller than McDermott.

I really agree with that. Dykstra has a ton of upside, but so does McDermott

MB won the tournament. Three MB players selected All Tournament. Doug McDermott named MVP. Dykstra and young Marcus Paige also on all tourney. Kind of impressive for a "role player." I am a huge Dougie fan.

He would be a full time starter and team leader at any other high school. His "role" player function is a testament to the amazing depth AHS had this year more so than his abilities.
And he's exactly the kind of not ready for the Big 12 player that our coaches seem to fall in love with.

greattt so what your saying is that dykstra shouldnt have gotten a scholly?

I think Doug could contribute for Iowa State, he needs to get stronger. Doug has a good nose around the rim and never quits which Iowa State can use coming off the bench. I think the potential is there to be an alright player in college. I think he should have started though.

Doug Mcdermott just dropped thirty five on the Playground Warriors, against Wisconsin 7-footer and commit Evan Anderson, and former UK commit Dakota Euton.

cyismydog, do you know if they expect Doug to keep growing? What is his wing-span like? He clearly has some skill, seems like if he gets bigger/longer he may well be a high-major PF some day. Even if he doesn't, I would love to see him at ISU, he would just work his way onto the court. Maybe he could get the Alex Thompson conditional scholarship.

Four games in this Tourney Doug was like 42-64 from the field 9 out 15 from 3 point land, averaged about 6-7 rebounds a game playing against some Great competition, recruits from Wisconsin, Kentucky and others.....

Not Bad......
