D. McDermott rated a three star by Scout

He didnt even start on his high school team. He seems like a solid player and is Ames second best player. I still dont know why he wasn't a starter and that is why I don't get the ranking. I only saw him play twice though.

He is a legit role player and would do well at Iowa State or Northern Iowa.

He is only a solid role player at his High School now. I would still like to see him come to ISU only because I think he could become good and only on daddy's dollar. I am just not seeing it though.

Well, the role of star player has been established rather solidly on his high school team.
I will agree with you though, he could develop into a pretty good player.

I think D-McD could work himself into the UNI rotation if he chooses that route. I still think he has a lot to work on before ISU should give him a hard look. He's a solid ballplayer and he can do some things well, but so could Clayton Vette, Clinton Mann & Cory Johnson. I know D-McD is a different player than those three, but I don't think his contribution to ISU would ever be more than any of those three, especially Cory Johnson, who I thought was a solid backup.

I agree. IMO I dont think he would contribute anymore than they did. I think he'd be more of a UNI fit.

Isn't basically everyone a three star on scout

Clayton Vette, Cory Johnson, Ross Marsden, Agnew, Reggie George all think so.

I hope we don't see any NCAA infractions with this one... How many phone calls to Greg get?

He sounds like a Mo Valley player to me, but who knows....hard to judge right now.

Way, way too early to tell whether McDermott can play in the Big 12. My hunch is he will be a solid starter at Ames during his senior year and then we'll learn more. Although I'm not a scout/recruiter and certainly didn't see him play that much, from what I saw, I was impressed. He seems like a smart kid who can rebound and has a nose for the basket.

By next year at this time, central Iowans might just be screaming for him to come to Iowa State.

We'll have to wait and see how McDermott develops. I've seen him play several times and I think he's a good garbage man right now that takes advantage of all the attention on Barnes. He'll have to get much bigger to be able to play that kind of role at the Big 12 level, but he should get bigger. It reminds me of the situation when Hoiberg played and the other Ames guard got a scholarship to UNI, basically on Fred's coattails, but I don't think he ever started or played much for UNI.

What Doug lacks in athletic ability, he will make up for in basketball smarts. I think I would compare him more to Paul Shirley. Only time will tell and Paul never contributed much until his Junior year. Like most big men.

He would be a full time starter and team leader at any other high school. His "role" player function is a testament to the amazing depth AHS had this year more so than his abilities.
