Cyclone tattoo suggestions

I want to get one when I graduate. I have thought about getting a tattoo that has to do with the "science with practice" thing on Hilton. (I'm an engineer) or maybe just go with good old Cy. I have a couple years to decide anyway...

I got mine Cyclone tat about two years ago. Mine is a picture of the old school Cy with the words "Cyclones 4 Life" above it and "Bro's Before XX's" below it. Of court my tat doesn't say "XX's" it says something else that rhymes with "bro's" but this is a family website.

Ahhh, such a romantic. Thats probably your avatar on that dating site you joined, right?

An ISU tat might not be bad as far as tats go, I've never decided to try one.

Another thread got me thinking (that's always trouble). It's been 20 years since my last (and first) tattoo. My other one was a major disaster. So, I want to get some kind of Cyclone tattoo. I know there's lots of artsy-fartsy people on here. Any suggestions?

Call me old fashioned, but if a tat doesn't have flames or a skull it might as well be a tramp stamp on your lower back.

My recommendation, don't get it on your ribs. I have a couple of tattoos and one was done on my ribs, it was agony for an hour and a half. It was well worth it though.

About 3 years ago I went back to Ames for a buddy's graduation party. One friend there made the announcement that if we rounded up enough money he would get a tattoo of Chris Mullin (Golden State Warriors, original Dream Team) on his arm. Sure enough we gathered the money and he got the tattoo of him on his left arm. I have been trying to track down an old picture of the tattoo, but haven't found it yet. But believe me, it is a gem.

You can not go wrong with a monkey?

You really can't go wrong with the electromagnetic wave equations...

I have a cubs tattoo on my right shoulder blade and that freakin thing hurt like a ***** when I got it done....call me a sissy it's ok

If we go to a BSC bowl and elite 8 in the same year, I would consider getting ISU tatted on my man thing in big letters.

Your not a sissy. My brother in law was almost in tears when he got his on the shoulder blade. Ripvdub got pics of his bros face on the camera phone. Priceless.

I was thinking about getting a Cyclone tattoo but what I am not sure about is where I should get it. Any suggestions?

That would be my next question: where? I'm in M'town so the Ames/Des Moines area would be easiest but I'd be willing to travel a bit more if it meant the difference between a really good tat and a bad one.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far.

Yes, anywhere you have bone closer to the skin than muscle, it will hurt worse. Shoulder blades, ribs, and feet are good examples of where getting ink will hurt.

I have 3 tattoos: on my back (between the shoulder blades, but slightly overlapping them), on my left upper arm, and on my right upper arm. The only one that really hurt was my right upper arm, as it was on my tricep and near the tender spot of my arm pit.

If you are a little unsure about your tattoo, some suggestions:

  1. The larger the better. No point in going back when you realize you should have gone large in the first place.
  2. Make sure it is in a very visible location, like your forearm, neck or face. Why get one if no one can see it?
  3. Don't pick it out ahead of time. The best decisions are made spur of the moment. Drink heavily before going, it will help open up your creative side.
Follow these guidelines and contented bliss will follow.
