Custer's Game

I disagree with Gessell comparison, Mike is more of a SG skills wise but a PG's body. He's forced to play PG due to Marble and Iowa lack of a true PG. Remember Marcus Paige was the PG on the Iowa AAU team in HS he didn't get the reps initiating the offense against top competition like CC has. There is a reason Ulis was the priority recruit for Fran last year.

I've watched a few of Custer's games he is a true PG. Comfortable with initiating the offense and keeping defenses honest with the outside shot. He's 6'1 with long arms too, which help with passing and collecting steals.

I've thought this as well, I like Gessell and don't think its a knock to compare the two. Gessell is just asked to do things that aren't really his strength bc of reasons you stated. Custer comes into a situation with experienced, versatile guys around him, not to mention he'll be playing in a system that puts no real importance on position the program says you play. I think Fred will handle him a lot like Montee and we've seen what kind of growth that kid has made in just a couple months.

I had a conflict and I couldn't make it to the game. When I saw him last year, I would definitely call him a combo guard who is as much a slasher as shooter. He's adept at breaking down his man and driving to the hoop to finish or dish. He's got a mean little cross over and hesitation move in his arsenal that he uses to abuse the HS kids with. He can obviously really shoot the ball.

Calling him like Jacy Holloway doesn't capture it - he's bigger than Jacy by quite a bit already and is better athlete. His game is more like that doosh at Ohio State, Aaron Craft. For the old timers, I see some Mike Born in him, so imagine that. He's definitely confident, and I think is going to be a player that opponents' fans just hate.

Like Kirk Hinrich?

Looks like he plays like Hinrich. Maybe smaller. But, similar game.

A fair bit smaller, like 3-4 inches, but yes, similar to Hinrich. I don't know if he's quite as fast in the open court as Hinrich was, but I would say it's a pretty fair comparison.

Custer is pretty much the same player as Derrick Rose.
Actually I think he is a lot like Morris.

Anyone else find it strange that player comparisons are always made among the same skin color?

No, it actually makes perfect sense when you think about it from a geographic and sociologic perspective. Even an ecologic and biological aspect if you want to get really deep about it.

My guess having never seen the guy play (other than highlight videos...not the same) is he is a really good player. What is not a guess is that he will become a much better player under CFH.
