Custer announcement tonight at 7pm

I just called the station (Metro Sports). They initially made the announcement with their Twitter account this afternoon. That tweet was apparently later deleted. The guy I just talked to said the announcement is still on for 7pm tonight. The person who sent out the tweet isn't there now, but he said he would have heard if the announcement was called off. Makes you wonder if there have been some late phone calls to Custer after the Metro Sports news.

Our guards are going to be newborn baby deer next year. I think SDW is going to have his chance at seeing plenty of PT with different players making trips to the dog house, underage drinking, home sickness, and failing Math 165.

I dont know who but I don't see any way we don't lose one of those last 5 guys listed after next season, or at the very least a guard from '14 the next year. Next year will be open competion between the young guys for playing time, IMO it will sort itself out and someone won't be happy with the prospect of being a back up for 3 or 4 years. In the long run losing a guy won't be tragic, it will probably be a blessing by helping spread out the logjam we have with 5 guards being sophomore or younger.

I will bet my next 5 mafia games he is coming to Iowa State.

Fred Hoiberg told me himself.

Just kidding. But seriously. He's coming here, I promise.

IF anyone transfers out, and that's a big IF, I think it would be Okoro before SDW.

First off, Okoro isn't RS and SDW is. That makes it more likely SDW would stay here. Also... SDW got WAY more playing time in our exhibition game this year than Okoro did. The reason... I think he's quite a bit better than Okoro is.

I thought SDW looked pretty darn good in our first exhibition game. He is lightning quick and smooth. He just needs to get stronger, and this RS year will help him do that. He's going to be a good one IMO.

This is 10x better than wondering who in the h*ll is going to fill our guard spots.

I absolutely agree with you, transfers happen. But I am afraid, a solid player that has extreme potential could be lost from our program because of it.

It should be paramount that we go after a big man at this very point. Getting Abu would be icing on the cake, but I'm not holding my breath!

Calm down. Transfers happen. It's better to have a player or two transfer when you're loaded with talent than when you're thin.

Now that GMac is gone, the people leaving won't be our top 1-2 players each season.

Now it would be nice to land one more talented big and a good wing by 2014

I thought that Jones was only going to be a junior next year, second semester.

I had this line of thinking a few weeks ago, but I don't think it has to be that way. Next year they'll all be battling for PT and I think they'll all be given a fair shot and 6 guards is not too many IMO. The year after we lose Ejim and Hogue, which will open up the 3 spot for additional PT. Who knows Ejim might never get the ball skils he needs to play the 3 and Okoro soaks up those minute earlier. In 2014, assuming we sign Custer, Terrell, Vaughn, Travis, and Abu we'll be winning NC's by 2015-2016, and who would want to leave that.

Point being, I'm not saying it's not possible that we lose one of them, but I just don't think it has to be a certainty or even likely.

Are you aware coaches can recruit multiple players at once? A novel idea, I know, but its quite true. I guarantee you Hoiberg and company are going hard after Abu and other post players. Hell, this is the 2014 class we're talking about. Still a LOOOONG way to go. Either way, complaining about getting a top 100 recruit is pretty silly.

I believe that half of the players will transfer, half will become pregnant, and and the other half will meet their doom when the solar car projects turn to life and embark on a meaningless, murderous rampage.
And the other third will stay with Freddy and win a national championship.
